i here mo , having spoken to jabba again today , they reckon with all the factors ion mind of the auq engine being one of the weakest , and compression ratios that 260 is around what i'll be getting maybe 270 at a extreme push even with the 3" tip and fmic , which to them seems abit a little from the money i'm spending , but think me its the best option still not convinced on hybrids but thats just me

I thought the AUQ engines were pretty strong, i've read it time and time again, good for 300 ish

Anyway, am I still on for tomorrow, John Ashley's ? , i'll be then time quoted if you wana link up.

I have been talking with INA and they say the AUQ lump is good for 300 standard and then with internals an a BT the auq is pretty good but comes at a premium.

What set-up are you looking at?

What ever I aim for, I want to stay on standard internals

AUQ has forged Mahle pistons in confirmed by Mahle themselves in another thread which will be good up to 400bhp it's the rods that will need doing to keep things safe.

I haven't really looked far into it mate. I asked for advice regarding 400bhpish but I also looked into feted internals.

Now I have looked into keeping standard internals but not too deeply. Forging costs too much and in the end isn't all that reliable I've seen on AUQ lumps?

In what way do you mean forging isn't that reliable on AUQ lumps?

The crank is forged as standard.

The pistons are forged from Mahle as standard (stock pistons have been used in 500+bhp applications)

The rods are cast and are the weakness as you said. They have the smaller wrist pin at 19mm as opposed to the 20mm in the BAM/AMK LCR engines.

A set of forged 19mm rods will be more than adequate for setups looking at over 450bhp.

Pat has been running a 320bhp/320lbft BT setup for years on his "weak" AUQ lol :p;)

As for valve springs, you won't need to change them unless doing headwork to raise your rev limit to over 7500rpm.

Exhaust valves are a risk on ALL 1.8T due to their two piece design, the head can separate from the stem and cause mucho carnage. Bill can give a lot more information on the valves and any potential issues.

Have to agree with all of that but people have bent rods on less power so proceed with caution. Theres seems to be more stress to the rods on hybrid set ups than BT.

Dont think you can ever class the AUQ as weak though, Its only the rods that need changing to take it further than 320 and Its only a 180bhp 1.8t when it leaves the factory.:cartman:

I've been looking at this for a while:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130317469588&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

They sell other kits too......

Seem's a very good price for a genuine Garrett which mates to the K03 downpipe so I don't have to change exhaust etc

it looks as if they buy kits from ATP here is ATO website:

http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=TP&Product_Code=ATP-VVW-151&Category_Code=

ATP-VVW-151_450.jpg

and here results: 97-04 Audi/Passat 1.8T GTRS Eliminator Hardware Kit

Quantity in Basket: None
Code: ATP-VVW-151
Price: $1,595.00
Shipping Weight: 20.00 pounds

Please choose a vehicle platform:
B5 (1997 to 2001) Audi A4/VW Passat
B6 (2002 to 2005) Audi A4/VW Passat
Eliminator_GT2871R_Option (Add $95):
Eliminator2871R Upgrade Option

The EBAY website store..
http://www.gt3turbo.com/Merchant/product.php?productid=769&cat=414&page=1

example:
97-04%20Audi-Passat%201.8T%20GTRS%20Eliminator%20Hardware%20Kit.png

Up to 350HP (octane dependent), Ball bearing GTRS bolt-on turbo kit utilizing stock exhaust manifold in stock location. All hardware required for complete bolt-on. Completely stealth and stock appearing. Retains all emissions related components. Fueling kit is recommended to compliment this hardware kit. Refer to P/N: GT3-VVW-152 to purchase the injector and software package and P/N: GT3-VVW-153 for the upgraded 3" inlet pipe kit for higher HP levels.

this is close but I believe ATP discontinued #152

the other problem the ATP with shipping to UK is $1112.25 GBP (close very)

if the discribition and product is what it is it is great stuff check locally with people about their customer service I know ATP has a great customer service but most of their products are never a problem.

I didn't say the AUQ lump is weak but I would have thought that amount of torque would put stress on other parts of the car, mainly the clutch and gearbox.

I by no means know what I'm talking about. Self taught mostly by reading here. I want to breach 350 but don't want the car off the road all the time due to things breaking :)

I'm not going to be dumping the clutch but I have read various things about the reliability of the car once your running silly power? I'm as open to being taught as anyone :)

I'm hoping to do most of the work myself with help from various people so have looking into various kits etc. Just need a poke in the right direction!! Haha

if you go the route of these turbos you will have your clutch/flywheel go bad how long ???

and the hoses are not really made for those turbos but you can survive with them but they can collapse.....

it will be harder on braking Something to think about maybe a remap and down pipe and muffler upgrade dv and air intake that is really nice got some power nice growl and do some cosmetics..... just a thought.

I have those upgrades fella so that's why I want to go down the BT route now I think. My clutch is on the way out anyway so I might just put a higher rated one in ready for the BT.

I have spoken to AMD and they said that the AUQ is fine for big power just depends how you drive it. Don't respect it, it'll break :)
