Weekly clean + products review

This week I received some new products to try. The first product I received that everyone has been raving about is Wolf’s Chemicals Deironiser. Getting rid of iron contaminants has been a big thing since middle of last year so I was eager to try this new Iron X rival out. I was told with confidence by that this product will not have any ill effects on my machine faced wheels as it is safe for all wheel types so pretty eager to see how much fallout I actually picked up since all the wheels got refurbished.

Second product was 3M’s leather and Vinyl restorer. I haven’t seen much about this product on the web but I have been won over by 3M Quik Wax so was eager to try this out.

Finally it gives me an excuse to give the car a good clean before she treks all the way to Forge next week!

Before I started on the wheels I sprayed the deironiser on the exhaust to see if it picked up anything. If you see on the left of the tip, some iron actually got stuck on there!

WOLF’s CHEMICALS – Brake Duster mini review

The first wheel I tested was the front right, I did not rinse the wheel before applying the product. Spray the product inside and outside ensuring even spread.

Within a couple of minutes I could see the iron contaminants dissolving away with the product turning a deep purple colour.

I decided to work in the product to see how it foams and spreads.

I really didn’t expect the wheel to be so badly contaminated as I only had it refurbished a couple of months ago and have been religiously cleaning and ensuring that the CG Wheel Guard is topped up on a monthly basis.

As stated in the instructions I allowed the product to dry fully before jjet washing off. Once washed off the wheel was super clean however it looks to have totally destroyed the CG Wheel Guard. I will tested tomorrow to see if protection is present by spray some water on the wheels to see if there is sheeting/beading.

I moved onto the rear wheel. This wheel I decided to clean with 10:1 mix Megs APC and Dodo Shampoo before applying the Deironiser

3-4 minutes later – hardly any contamination on the rear!

Rinse away and again was impressed to see a super clean wheel. I then moved onto the front left wheel but this time I jet washed the wheel before applying the deironiser.

Front left wheel was not as heavily contaminated as the right wheel. I am not sure whether pressure washing made the difference or not. What I am sure about is that this is a truly amazing product and so handy cause you can spray and leave it to dry. The fact that you can also use it on body work also makes it essential for decontaminating a vehicle. Only concern is the cost so definitely would not use it on a weekly basis but then to be fair you wouldn’t need to. Compared to its rivals its cheaper and better! 9/10 from me!

CAR BODY CLEAN STAGE

Car was snow foamed with a very weak mix of ValetPro Snowfoam and Dodo Juice Supernatural. Worked quite well.

3M Quik Wax

This is a product that not many people have been talking about which is quite surprising as it works so well and is so easy to use. The shine it gives its quite impressive for a spray wax!

It can be applied on the car wet however in this instance I applied it dry (I prefer it this way). Application is super easy and it hardly requires any sort of buffing. Reminds me a tad of Red Mist the way it disappears soon as you start buffing on. Using this product every time you wash can extend the life of the primary protection for ages. I am giving this 8/10 and will definitely be buying more!

CAR BODY CLEAN STAGE cont…

3M Leather and Vynil Restorer

This smells great and cleans quite well to. The finish it gives it quite matt to a matt sheen depending on how you apply. Does work really well, the price is great and the fact that it smells so nice which makes the cabin smell nice gives it added value. I tested it on my leather steering wheel and it cleaned up quite well also. I would say it’s a better Vynil/Plastic dressing that a restore of leather but will give it a good workout in the coming months for sure. 7/10 for now!

In conclusion pretty pleased with all the new products so far! I think 3M products are very good and definitely deserve more praise. Wolfs product is awesome – end of!

Nice work as ever Maz.
How do you get the rubber boots in the door shuts that take the wiring to look black ?
Mine look like they have been dusted with talcum powder.

Great results, car looks fantastic. Your door shuts are 10 times cleaner than mine. I had to recently reapply some lubricating grease to my drivers door hinges to stop an irritating knock noise when setting off and breaking. So the trade off is that horrible white residue

Cheers Dave.

Give them a good clean with APC and a scrubbing brush. You should see lots of black dirt coming out of them. Give them a wipe down of IPA then dress with your fave dressing. I havent done mine for a fair few years now but they kept well considering.

This powder residue is Autoglym Super Resin Polish?

Cheers.

Clean the great away using WD40 - you will be suprised that it still well lubricated. Just repeat on a monthly basis.

mines running low and its rather on the expensive side.

Hard to tell whether it works better but the fact that its cheaper and you can leave it on the wheel to dry is to major plus points! £10 for 1ltr which is pretty good going!

Thanks for that Maz, I will give it a try.
I've never used SRP on the car but I suppose a previous owner may have.
Its hard to describe, I will post a pic later, but its like the rubber itself is discoloured white in places. Its always bugged me.

Pretty sure what I suggested will work. What rubber and vynil dressing do you use?

Car looks very well matey, liking the look of the wheels and have made a note of the cleaner your using  You seem to be my chief tester of new products at the moment...lol

That white powder / residue your on about... i dont think its any sort of product thats on the rubber boots in the doors... if you have ever had a new cv joint boot or something similar they always come out of the packaging with a powdery coating on them, i'm not sure if its something from the manufacturing process or something applied to help stop the rubber from perishing though. If you think back to inner tubes on push bikes they always had a white powdery coating on them as well !

Good clean and a dressing is about as good a combo as your going to get i think. IPA might cause premature hardening of the rubber (cause of the solvent content drying it out).

Your quite right Nige, point taken. Reason I said IPA was that if the rubber is then being nourished i.e. restore with a good product then it shouldnt really matter to much?
