Ape's LCR225 Thread (Getting Back on the Road)

Exactly

Too right dude, I'm just curious. I'm all up for criticism so I can improve. But at the same time it'll be like many "forum mechanics", where everything said needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. We go for the experience, commadarie (sp), the wheat beer and the lovely waitresses at the PistenKlause, we don't go to hammer as many laps as we can to try and shave a second off here, or perfect a line through one of the umpteen corners. We go for a good time :D

Anyway, pics are uploaded :D next few posts will see pic whoring taken to a new level!

Oh My GOSH!

Amazing pics Ape. Pure car p0rn!!

I absolutely love this thread! One of my favourite reads on here hands down.

Looks like an immense experience and it's nice to read about going out there for the fun of it and not taking it too seriously.

Superb. :)

Thanks old bean! The graphics are very hit n miss and as we applied them last minute, in the dark, they could look better. Definitely a marmite mod! I'll be getting them redone properly in the future though!

A gang of us are looking to go again in September. The more the merrier!

Ape, fair play to you for posting this up.
You will always get people telling you what your doing wrong and how they would do it.
I have driven exactly like you and destroyed a set of brand new R888's in a 4 hours session.
I learned from this as it made it a very expensive day.
Don't get me wrong I was grinning like a Cheshire cat and loving it big time but only.managed a 66 second lap of Knockhill.

There seemed to be nothing hugely wrong with your driving that time and experience wouldn't tweak to allow you to ultimately get better times.
You obviously understand your car and have the balls to through it into corners.

With the same driving style, better tyre and a Wavetrac diff you would have gotten a better time and everyone would be saying how well you drove.
Without the diff and slicks all you would have to do is brake slightly harder prior to the corners, set yourself up on the racing line and accelerate hard when you have unwound most of the lock you have.

You will get there.

Have you had any tuition at any of the track days you have been on?
It makes a huge difference having a pro with you giving you pointers.

Keep up the good work.

That's how I look at it mate, it's the first time the car was used for extended periods in anger. I do get a bit over enthusiastic and love chucking the car into a corner, even if it does lose some time doing so.

The tyres are a compromise as I needed to get home on them, I don't think I could with a softer compound like R888's.

I've never had any tuition from a pro, it's all been learning as I go along.

Great project, nice report and a cool video; certainly captured the decompression through Fuchsrohe!!

I've been around the 'Ring a few times, and I don't think there was much to criticise. As Will said (and as you already know) the diff will make a big difference but touristfahren days should be about having a laugh and the 'experience' rather than datalogging and lap times in my opinion.

You braver than me lapping there with no lid on though :)

I have used the search option and found nothing; have you fitted a baffled sump to yours Ape?
