Hi all, i got a 2005 leon a few days ago, but the garage only had the key without the flip or any buttons. I hate it and the other doors wont open until i put it in the ignition. They are trying to get in contact with the last owner but i doubt I'll see it. What is the cheapest way to get another key sorted with all the buttons, flip and coded etc? I've lost count of the threads ive read and still feel in the dark :(

That key will still have a transponder in as it allows you in the car and to start it up. I presume that a Auto electrician maybe able to help you. These have been mentioned in this thread. Either that or Seat maybe able to help.
Not wanting to worry you, but I hope this person isnt going to turn up one night and just silently (because they have a key) Drive off in your car?!?

Been looking at getting a 2 button remote key fob off e-bay so started asking around the local key cutters for quotes. Most wouldn't touch cutting a key off e-bay with a barge pole as they said the steel was too hard and damaged their machines. Timpsons said they would but couldn't guarantee the cut. What's people's experience with Timpsons? The key fob on ebay is £40 and the cutting costs about £10 so don't really want to get it messed it up!

Also am I able to code up the remote locking chip of the new key with out needing to get the blade cut to test it works ok? Just thinking I could re-sell the new remote key fob on e-bay if it doesn't work :)

I've only got 1 Key. Is there any way of still getting a flip key to work? If not, how can I make a secondary key in order to eventually get a flip key?

Later Edit: Don't know why I understood that I needed a main key and a spare key besides the flip key? After re-reading the guide I understand what I need to do now...sorry for the stupid question don't even mind me lol. Hopefully I will do this mod next week.

Not sure if this has been answered & yes I've trawled through the thread....but is it possible to reprogramme the central locking function on your new remote fob if you only have a std
spare key(doesn't have remote function)Need to know before I pull the trigger.

Umm ideally you need you two transponders, one of which will be in the spare.

Someone may correct me on this, but I believe you need a auto electrician to get you a new blank transponder that will be allowed to be paired with your car ie When you put one key in the lock and use one in your hand.

Oh I understood u only need 1 key for ur car, and then the blank flip key. Cut the flip key at a keycutters in the shape of ur car key, turn ignition on with ur car key, then lock the car mechanically with the new cut flip key and then press the unlock button once and then press it again for 6 seconds till u hear the horn (or flashing lights for some). Then after that u take the transponder out of ur car key and place it into ur flip key. Am I gettin this? Or am I thinkin that I'm gettin it but I'm really not? :/ Need to know as I've got a blank VW key lined up and dont wanna be wastin time and money. Thanks

So just to clear this up......I have 1 key which is a non remote with a transponder already coded to my car.Car starts & works fine. Now can I buy a remote key fob & program the remote locking on it with just the non remote in the ignition.

I think the general concensus is that Yes you can do it that way....... but in an ideal world it would be best to have 2 coded transponders, btw the transponders are cheap as chips less than £5

On a side note, dont you need a transponder in the key that goes in the ignition to start the car?

Cheer's lads.Once I have the remote fob I'll get the transponder coded(already have a fresh transponder),key cut & then use the non remote in the ignition & hopefully I'll be able to program the central locking on the remote fob this way

Reprogram new remote.
Hopefully you will have 2 keys - both with transponders in. I used 2 keys to do this.
1. Switch Ignition ON and leave keyONE in the ignition.
2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using keyTWO
3. Using the remote control(flip key)
press the UNLOCK button once, and the horn will sound once. (mine didnt)
4. Wait 6 seconds and press the UNLOCK button again to activate the coding procedure
and the horn will sound once.

I followed this and it didnt work, so i went to see a mate and followed AutoData's instructions as follows:
(Please Note Remote Coding Procedure Must be completed within 30 Seconds from switching on ignition)
1) Place original key in ignition and switch ignition on
2) Put New keyFob in Drivers Door Lock
3) Manually Lock Drivers Door and hold for 6 seconds
4) With Unlock Button on keyfob pressed Manually unlock key and lock once more (ensuring button is continually pressed) My Horn sounded at this point
5) Unlock Car manually
6) Remove Key
7) Coding procedure will now be complete
8) Check fob buttons work ie lock and unlock

After Completing this i returned home and transferred the old transponder to my new fob and hey presto all hunky dory, put my blank transponder in old key incase i decide to get it coded in the future.

Im not saying original guide is incorrect, just saying this one worked for me :D Have Fun!

You simply buy a new transponder from here:

Its the "AKTP2" one at £3 for the Leon.

Assuming you have your cars SKC code, you then get a mate with VAG-COM to sync the new immobiliser transponder with your car using this guide:

If you don't know your SKC, you'll need to get the new key synchronised by a SEAT dealer or if you know anybody with VAG-TACHO (like me :D) they may be able to plug in and find out what the SKC is but this doesn't always work.

hi my friend... i want to change my car's engine ECU. but as you know, when i change it, it does not accept my key(immobilizer blocks). i dont SKC key, so i have bought vag-tacho. but know i dont know how to use it. can you help me and tell me what to do step by step? after doing this, can i still use immobilizer or will it be disabled? Thanks... [email protected]

done this last week, cost me about £55 in total.

I had one key, small round 2 button remote fob key. No spare key.

I bought the squarer type, 2 button flip remote key, from a seat altea on ebay for £11 ish
I bought a key blade, cut to a photo of my key from a company i found on ebay also for £10
I bought a virgin / blank ID48 glass type transponder for £5

I put the key together when all the parts arrived. Matched the remote to the central locking by doing the key in door method as described on here.

I paid £30 locally for a guy to program my new key to my car. *found him on gumtree*

£55 ish in total, cheaper than the dealer so im happy. Plus the altea remote works from miles away unlike my old key remote which had to virtually touch the window before it worked.
