Just ordered my new FR - couple of n00b questions

Im getin a leon fr in may cant wait and is on mobility too. And as for not bein able 2 mod it is a lot of crap. Ive an astra on mobility and i have a exhaust and induction kit on it. I asked before i done any of this and they said go ahead, only thing ur not allowed 2do is a engine swap lol.

i only asked abt a exhaust not a remap lol they'd neva allow that sort of thing. To b honest i was surprised i was a exhaust but they said 2 have the car standard wen it was goin bk. Is the fr quick

My petrol car is 230bhp and I reckon the FR is as quick, at least on the motorways. Hard to gauge though as the power delivery is a lot different, but yes, it's very quick.

Im just saying i dont like the idea of it........ im certainly not ignorant, im merely expressing my distaste at benefit swindlers. From the outlook, motability+remap......looks swindly to me! Anywayz im not here to flame you! Sorry if it comes across that way!

It should be noted that people who have cars on the Motability scheme lose all of the Mobility component of their Disability Living Allowance in return for the use of a car and this fella will have paid a hefty deposit to get a Leon FR.

We come across a fair bit of abuse of the Motability Scheme in this area but many of the motability drivers (as obviously this chap does) have a genuine need for a bit of a helping hand to get themselves, or others they care for, around as public transport is not suitable.

Perhaps the phrase "Think before you type" would be the best advice I can give in this instance as it would give you time to both consider the facts and examine your punctuation and spelling!

+1, I think it's something like £160 per month my wee boy would get through the higher rate if it wasn't for the car? That on top of the £999 deposit I paid...

My pals all say they're jealous that I get a brand new car every few years on top of my two other cars, and I always feel a bit guilty as a result, but then they all remind me that the missus and I are bringing up a child with Down's syndrome (which is by no means an easy task - he's six and only started walking a few months ago, and can only say a handful of words), and that we fully deserve that extra bit of luxury in our lives.

We've re-mapped a quite few Motability cars and none of the drivers have experienced any problems on handback.

From purely a legal point of view, you should speak to the insurance company just to make sure you're fully covered as power modifications have a nasty habit of coming back and biting you in the arse if you have an accident and the insurance company is trying to wriggle out of a claim.

Thanks for the advice mate. When the car is remapped, how "noticeable" is it, if you get me?! Not in terms of performance, but in terms of ways that anyone servicing or repairing the car could complain about? Also, I presume it's easily reversible?

i was finkin this aswell, wen ther getin serviced do they check the ecu? if so u cud get a tuning box so wen its getin serviced u cud remove it and then re-apply it afterwards

I just bought a tuning box from Chip Express as I have a contract hire car that goes back in 2 years time. I wanted something that could be removed so it was untraceable at service time and I could resell when I got rid of the car.

I declared it to my insurance company (Aviva) which cost me an extra £58 pa.

As to performance, well check the following out:-

BHP was 168, now is 202!

Torque was 258 lb/ft and is now 305!

These figures are for the standard module but you can increase and decrease the setting using little jumpers on the tuning box.

The other benefit is that my mpg has gone up from 41.5 to over 49!

It cost me £395 and is easy to fit once you have worked out which plug to unplug!

you shud of bought a crd-t box of dtuk, ther boxes tune it to 215 bhp and 335lb of torque. Looks like a bitch 2 hook it up though.

Actually if you use the jumpers on the Chip Express tuning box, you can get up to 218 bhp and 344 lb/ft of torque. The mpg suffers a bit but I am very happy with my set up now.

The thing is, I don't want to do anything "illegal", but I suppose if I disconnect it for servicing etc. it shouldn't be an issue. Where does it plug in? Would I have to cut any wires or that?

There are no wires to cut at all. You unplug the common rail sensor, plug in the new cable and plug the original plug into the other end of the new cable, connect up the tuning box which is about the size of a box of cards and voila! It comes with a null plug to put on instead of the box for servicing which make the car completely standard apart from an extra bit of cabling!

That's the link to the product I bought. It comes with full instructions and photographs. It took about 20 minutes to do but now I know which plug it is, I could probably do it in 5 minutes now.
