Leon - Rattles and Creaks

I took delivery of my Leon Cupra on October 13th this year(2001), and it has been OK except for a very irritating rattle from dash panel under the steering wheel. The rattle eminates from the top left hand corner of this panel. The Seat dealer have "fixed" this problem, but it is slowly reappearing. Has anyone else suffered from this problem and if so what did you do?

Is this just because the suspension is fairly hard, or is there some design fault or do I have an car with a poorly put together dash?

PS. I have also suffered from the squeaky clutch, but that was fixed, apparently this is fairly common.

Thanks

Dash creaks - squeaky clutch

I have to say you are not the only one with such problems:

Mine dash creaks for a week now (I bought my Leon in June this year). I suspect it has to do with the fact that when I bought it I had the Gemini alarm fitted by the dealer and they did a lousy job. Any guidelines of how to access the area under the steering without damaging it?

The clutch as well as the brake pedals also squeak. I think of a little WD40 would do the job, since I do not trust any engineers here, but I could use some help of how to dismental the dash.

Thanks,
Turmoil:devil:

I believe this may be similar to problems posted previously. Mine makes a similar noise but its coming from the lower front mounting bush of the antiroll bar which mounts to the body directly at the bottom of the dash each side ( in the engine compartment that is before somebody picks me up ) It sounds like its coming from the dash, but it isn't.........

Although its mildly irritating I'm waiting till 10k service to get mine looked at. Manifests itself worst when driving slowly over rough or uneven surfaces.

Thanks for the responses guys. Interestingly the first time the rattle got bad was after the panel was removed from under the steering wheel to allow access to fix the squeaky clutch. i think the moral of the story is to leave the dash well alone if you can.

Cheers

Thanks, Tony. I spoke with Mark at Parkstone yesterday and he said the new engine had turned up first thing in the morning and was in the car and that it would probably be finished sometime today.

Whereabouts in Essex are you?

Hi, On this note - I've just got my LCR back from the dealers after hjave a cam belt and service (60k) no rattles when it went in...

.. now when i get to about 5Krevs + i get this irritating constant vibration/rattle from somewhere beneaith the steering column. This also happens when stationary and simply reving to a constant 5k revs and sitting there.

I've tried to move about what i can/what is visible from the underneath but still no joy. Do they have to remove one of these panels for a cambelt change/service? Does anyone on here have any idea what this could be?

Advice greatly appreciated ;)

I've tried to search but not much luck - hence the reply in this 6yr old thread ;)

Cheers

Ste

I got excited when I saw a reply then... such an anti-climax!

Although you have put a small smile on my quite annoyed face ;)

Rattle / Squeek etc

Yeah sorry no solution to this one yet either guys:confused: but since my windscreen was replaced 3 weeks ago I have noticed a squeeking / rattling which comes and goes from the drivers side dashboard.

Other annoying rattles are as follows:-

Front Passenger side speaker (tweeter) or upper panel..
Loose trim where the vertical internal panel at foot well meets the cill covers, it seam to be not refitted correctly. It wants to pop out from the cill.

Any Ideas on how to get these off and re-fix.??? :help:

If I get any clues about what the cause of your rattle might be I will give you a shout.....

Apart from that what a car,... I am so glad I went from the VW to the seat. That 1.8t 20v lump has never sounded better than in this SEAT

Rattles

My Leon Cupra seems a bit rattley at the front end. Do the suspension bushes need changing or is it the front dampers that are knackered? It's a 2002 1.8T and done just over 70k. Is this about right for bushes or dampers to need changing?
:headhurt::confused:

rear suspension really creaky sometimes, sometimes bad, sometimes barely noticable....front sounds like there's something knocking about but these noises only happen with the b4st4rd speed bumps.

Forgot to mention i have an 04 225 LCR with 37k miles.
