Winter tyres

I got my winter tyres fitted yesterday two weeks after ordering them, although they were held up being delivered sooner due to the roads being so bad!

Haven't tried going up a snow covered hill yet, but had a play in a snow covered car park this morning. I had no issues going forward, round corners or reversing, not even a hint of slipping. I wouldn't have been able to do that with my Sesanta's on!

I can also put my foot down on a clear road with no ESP coming on. Even on a clear road going round a bend with the Sesanta's on they would slid due to the very cold temperatures and flat out in 3rd gear the ESP would kick in, but not now with the winters on. Much more confidence now.

I got a set of Nankan SV1 Winter tyres

Did you order from mytyres.co.uk? I did and they took 2 weeks. I've got nankang sv2. Used them on a snowy hill an there was no wheel spin from a hill start. Same hill with slightly deeper snow and my summer tyres just didn't work, had to reverse back down.

A wee bit of advice for others that are thinking Bout getting winters.

BUY 4 TYRES

I've only got 2 on the front cos the steel wheels for the rear still haven't turned up. Makes corners and round abouts interesting in the snow.

Just managed to get these for 170 a corner, fitted and balanced, should be here next week, when the thaw begins.....

I've heard very good things regarding these tyres so looking forward to getting them fitted and trying them out...........in the interests of car dynamics of course!

Just ordered some nankang sv2's today for the birds beetle. Should be fitted by the time the snow and ice clears lol! Only ordered two for the front as she only drive slowly, a bit like miss daisy.
Will put these on the rear for the warmer months and let her t1r's do the work up front.
Hope they work ok as she's out and about all day doing her job in her car.

It just shows that near enough any winter tyre, even from a budget manufacturer, will be an improvement on summer tyres. I guess the difference is that we expect our summer tyres to perform when driving enthusiastically whereas the winters are just to get us going and prevent bouncing off kerbs

Exactly, I just want to be able to get around and to work without needing a push and digging myself out lol.

Yip, ordered a set of 4
They got flown in from Denmark within 3 days and delivered to a DPD depot down south, then took 10 days to get up here. Probably due to the weather and massive back logs etc.

I paid £104 each for mine, which are 225/40/R18.

Although, the website has now bumpt these up to £140 each!

A pothole just destroyed one of my Wintrac Xtremes. Looked up price and they're £200 a corner now. Ouch.

I need to put the stock alloys back on anyway due to moving the car on in a month or so, but I guess it'll happen sooner rather than later

Reported it to them after taking photos. I drove past this afternoon and a council van was there with flashing lights pouring something into it.

It may be a bit warmer just now but it will definatly get colder again and more snow is likely so there's no point taking them off just yet. I don't think you should be looking to change back until at least March because it is known to get snow in March aswell.

I change mine mid/end of March. It'll get colder before it gets warmer and remember they're not just for snow!

Thought I'd check the tread on the one surviving front tyre (225/40/18) that was on last year as well and it's only down to 6mm tread - this is for a tyre that doesn't go near the motorway once on my commute, all B roads and I'm a tad enthusiastic when I can be

Ditto - mine went back on last weekend .... the biggest difference is the decrease in ride quality, 5 months on flexible pliant rubber and a higher profile / smaller wheels has spoiled me

I'll be refitting my summer tyres soon- maybe next weekend. Was busy changing a headlamp today.
