had one or two drinks so forgive me if i prattle on. at 46 and looking to replace my nissan primera (sensible family car) in the summer of 2010 for something new, as the kids are up size didnt really matter. my main priorities were decent performance with good fuel economy and something you wouldnt see around every corner, i had been looking at the audi a3 2.0l tdi s line in white but unfortunately (or so i thought) to get it in spec i wanted it was over my budget. looked and test drove the honda 2.2 diesel type s, loved the interior and drove very well, basically ticked all the boxes but was a little unsure about looks from the outside. after 4 weeks of trawling the internet and scouring the local dealerships the wife had had enough and told me to get whatever i wanted as she'd had enough.totally confused and thinking sod it i'll just go down the sensible route and have a look at the ford focus, popped into arnold clark newcastle, ford/ seat dealership. To cut along story short, saw the boc and thought it looked awsome but thought sky high insurance and silly mpg would rule me out. had a bit crack with the dealer, performance, mpg, tax :wtf: i loved it.. after little bit of research on the net went down with the wife the following day and bought the car.wow absolutely loving it, great performance, mpg ok, tax spot on,also every time i drive the car i do get so many admiring looks(not really important but it still feels good). at times i think i maybe im a little to old for this car, but washed the car this afternoon after two weeks of crap weather(looks great) jumped into the drivers seat, turned the ignition on and thought sod it!! i love it!! only thing thats bugging me is the fact that most of you guys driving the bocs seem to have had an engine remap and are totally blown away with the results. im not really sure i need a remap, as i dont really drive it that hard on a regular basis, but its really tempting! just to see the look (in the rear mirror) of the ford st racers that regularly seem to be looking for aggro at the traffic lights. should i go for it:confused: just to finnish off, ive only been a member since september, but i find this forum really informative and feel that, although ive never met any of the regular members,:) i know you quite well. happy new year and all the very best to you in 2011. oops sorry just a little info required, if i get a revo remap what sort of 0-60 mph would i expect to get.

Hi Pault56,

Happy New Year.

The boc looks fab. Congratulations.

My partner & I just bought the 1.4 FR yesterday & we are no teenagers either:lol:
I was also querying about a remap, but wasn't sure how that would affect the manu warranty. What mpg are you getting with the boc? We were out last night, when the roads were empty taking a blast up & down the motorway. That was quite scary enough with the standard bhp!!
The cupra & boc must be awesome. Couldn't afford to stretch to the boc or cupra & really struggled in Scotland to get the FR.

Enjoy cruising. Hope you don't have too bad a hangover this morning.

Happy new year to you too mate. Glad you're liking the car and trust me, you're never too old hahahahahahahaha. My Dad is like 56 and he has an alfa sud which he has modified the crap out of and he is forever trying to squeeze more power out of it little 1.5 boxer motor. The REVO does make one heck of a difference believe it or not. The great thing about it is that you can still drive normally and your mpg etc wont really be affected in the least but the additional grunt is there when you need it and it will make you smile every time. I think you meant to ask what sort of 0-60 times to expect. SEAT claimed 7.4 secs standard I think but we all found out soon enough it was much quicker at about 6.8 or so. After the remap we have guys doing it in sub 6 seconds which is really quick. Is it worth it? I definately think so. Maybe someone with a boc/cupra near you who has had the map can meet up and show what it's all about or you can get a trial from REVO. They will map it to the fuel you use so you will be able to get a feel for it. I use V-Power only and have the sps switch so I can turn it on or off depending on the mood.

Hey PAul, I was in a similar position to you, although a slighty younger 42 but had my fair share of fun cars, including a couple of S14a' Nissan 200 SX's which i loved but found they were too low getting in and out of.. ha ha.
Last car was a 57 plate Vectra petrol and while it was sensible family car, it was in fact a lot boring and although had a lot of toys i soon grew weary of the thing. My wife has a Zafira so thats what we use for family outings/runs to the tip etc. Meant I could buy something smaller too.
I was looking for a hot hatch and was swithering between a new Fabia vRS or the Seat, eventually decided the Skoda was too boxy and looked tall and thin. So I bought a 10 plate Boc with 3.5k on it and i love it to bits. Like the way it drives in stop start traffic being an auto also when you give it the boot!

I'm also considering the Revo remap but having only had the Boc for 2 days before the snow came i'm going to wait till the roads are a bit drier so i can decide if i need more power or not.
Running costs are superb also, £125 a year tax, a claimed 44mpg combined ;-( and i actually got a £30 refund from my car insurance when i swapped from the Vectra!

Now trying to steer my 18 year old son to his own 1.2 Clio and away from the Seat! Ha ha

LOL. Good luck with that sly. The problem with these cars is that they are just too damn sexy for their own good. I had a guy in his megan rs almost bin it they way he was craning to see my car when he drove past me the other day hahahahahahahahahaha

Great hangover cure just discovered. Just spent the last 90 mins outside washing the Boc! Looks good again and am feeling refreshed, ready for a tightner! ;)

I have had a few people looking at the car but mine is the only one around here i have seen as of yet, I'm only 10 miles north of Edinburgh as well!

Never had a challenge either yet ha ha.

IMO ignore the 0-60 figures, its all dependant on the launch, the tyres, the tarmac your on etc. alot of variables etc.

what you will notice though is a huge increase in the midrange and the in-gear performance figures like 30-50, 50-70 etc. these are the figures you will actually use on a daily basis.

Yeah, I thought that a lot of people were looking at the FR yesterday when we drove it home. Maybe it's just our good looks:lol:

As you are only 10 miles north of Edinburgh & we are 15 miles south of Glasgow, perhaps we could challenge each other:lol: No contest in your boc. Need to wait until I get a remap!!!

I'm game, perhaps at Crail in the new year? :D

I'm thinking of getting a rolling session booked to see what BHP i have before any mods, gives a good baseline.

The FR remap sounds awsome, 150bhp to potentially 220bhp...superb!

Very good idea, especially if you continue to use the same rolling road and tuner for your runs in the future, then you can see the actual gains and improvments. that way even if your stock figures are inflated by an generous dyno, you can still see the difference between stock and mapped

jason did you enquire about how the remap would affect your warranty, if so what did they say? also did you disclose this info to your insurers and did it affect your premium, regards paul.

My dealer said they would honor it as they were a revo dealer too. Unfortunately, they have closed down now so I will use Letchworth who are also a revo dealer. As for the insurance................ thank goodness for the sps switch hehehehehehehehehehe

and im right in the middle of both of you :p im not going to go for a map as im not risking the warranty as i need the car everyday for my 60mile round trip commute and i cant risk £££'s of repairs as i prob couldnt afford it......but thats just my personal choice.....now if i could get a revo under warranty........:D:D:D i know theres a dealer in Letchworth (ta JC) that does it but its like 400miles away haha and if only thats garage would honour the warranty its a long round trip if my engine blows :p

Looks like we could have some "The Fast & the Furious" stuff going on, in Scotland:D
Who's going Vim Diesel?

Not sure I would want to risk my warranty either. That was the reason I bought a nearly new car.

Pault56 - 30 mpg is not bad, with the occasional sprint included.

jc_boc - If sly200sx, Rossers87 & I make it to Crail we will post the video for you:D

Think I would include it in a FR review on you tube, since there seems to be a lack of FR reviews.

Excellent, I look forward to it. You guys should all come to gti international in June this year too. Last year Mardon and I were the only two bocs/ mk5's there. Would be nice to see many more representing the range this year.
