Guys,

I have been looking at getting a seat cover for my Leon Cupra drivers seat for a long time but none that were available would fit right due to the recaro style shape of the seat.

So I saw these waterproof black and red ones on ebay with SEAT Sport logos on them and they were cheap enough so thought I would try one. Turned out to be a very good fit :) I will post a picture on here after a while of it fitted to the car.

Heres the link if anyones interested, it came from thiland so took a couple of weeks to be delivered but all in all a good low cost seat cover.

What about the side airbags? Do your covers have open sides

I have the same seat cover on my FR, the side airbag should be strong enough to pop the weak stitching of the side of the seat cover. Mind you I started driving before air bags were invented and I'm still alive and kicking. IMO they should do away with air bags all together and have a large sharp spike in the middle of the steering wheel.

For safety reasons any seat fitted with side airbags should not be covered with a seat cover unless its been designed to be used for seats with airbags, the ebay discription does also warn against it. The orginal seat cover is designed to split apart if the airbag is deployed, anything covering this can obstruct its correct deployment.

Snap on sell a seat cover designed with a side flap.

^^^^^I fully understand what you say but if my side airbags can explode and rip the side of my seat open then a thin piece of nylon with weak stitching won't even make it blink. Also the amount of cars I have seen in scrap yards with no airbag deployment after a heavy looking impact is astonishing. My seat cover will be staying exactly where it is.

Your choice, but they are designed to rip apart one seam and not two

Are they designed to rip apart one seam and then flop like a Turkey's red dangly thing? *sorry don't know the name of it*
Or are they designed to rip through the side of a seat (that needs a Stanley knife to do in a scrap yard) and then cushion you against the force of a car smashing into you?

I think the extra resistance of a bit of extra stitching will be very minimal indeed. Have you seen the video of a bloke sat on an airbag that was triggered? He shot up in the air and hit the ceiling.

here you go clicky

Plastic seat covers can cause the seat airbag to be directed wrongly, rather than opening towards the door they can cause the airbag to open around the front of the seat which pushes the occupant forwards.

i would support the theory that they should be able to burst the stitching of the seat but hey - you never know

I almost p1ssed myself when i saw that vid on rudetube a couple of weeks ago :D
