James your blowing me away with the amount of detail in your updates! Great work and car looks immaculate.

Thanks Maz:) I try to keep the thread as detailed as possible; hopefully it's not overkill... I'm enjoying having a thread and find that it's giving me a bit more motivation to keep moving with the car's upkeep. Not sure why I didn't start one much sooner!

Just about to read your latest detail post.

James.

In all honesty, I'm very new to both lcr ownership and meticulous cleaning and general detailed upkeep of any car I've owned, so I am researching as much as I can on here atm aswell as asking a couple of good friends who have been doing this sort of thing and using these products for some time now.

Hopefully it won't be too long before I can voice my own opinions and recommendations, but in the meantime I'll enjoy the good threads such as your own and hopefully continue to be inspired!! :D

Thanks for the sig comment! ;)

I think you're right. Sometimes it helps to give products a go and if you like them, I think you're more likely to enjoy using them. Jonjay's thread, amongst others including the finerdetails website and sub-forum on here, helped a lot. Good luck and I look forward to watching your progress.

Hi all,

It’s been a while since I last updated this thread and unfortunately, there’s not too much to report.

As planned, on 05 Nov, the car had it’s 5,000 mile oil change using the Valvoline oil that my mechanic Alf continues to rave on about. The gearbox had an oil change too. I’ve been using Activ-8, which is a mechanical lubricant, for a while and I have to say, with a top up with the fresh oil, it’s running really well; runs free and is very quiet. Activ-8 has also been used in the gearbox, which has made movements much smoother. I've also increased the throw of the Forge Short Shift from full (40% reduction) to around 30% which seems to have much improved gear changes from 1st to 2nd gear (this seems to be a common report).

The VW Polo is all dandy but I’m using the Leon much more as it’s really nice to drive at the moment. The only problems are that the Leon is filthy and that it kind of defeats the object of having the Polo as a daily….

I went to the NEC today to visit the Classic Car and MPH show. It was brilliant; lots of really well kept cars that you wouldn’t usually see on the roads. AND…. I got to see Ed China and Mike Brewer from the TV series Wheeler Dealers (sad I know) but it made my day.

The Meguiars stand was just brilliant. The everyday examples of cars were of the highest standard. They had the MK2 Golf GTI that won best Golf at this years E38 show; I hadn’t seen it in the flesh before but it was just stunning (white with chrome BBS’ with red inners). I really regret not taking any pictures.

One pic I did take which took me back a few years…..

My old DA polisher was on its way out so I bought a new one today. I still don’t feel confident with a rotary so I stuck with a DA. Meguiars had a G220 on offer for £119 but I decided to go with the Dodo Juice‘s version which cost £80; it came with a Dodo Juice plush drying towel, Dodo Juice buffing cloth and a Dodo Juice polishing applicator. I’ll continue to use the Megs polishing and finishing pads, as I like them. I also got a bottle of Megs Ultimate detailer and Quick Wax; I seem to be a sucker for Megs products at the moment.

Anyway that’s it for now. If the weather is fair in the morning, I’ll give her a wash. The V1s go on next month hopefully. Over the winter, there are plans but I’ll update once they’re done (more trial and error processes….).

As always, thanks for reading :)

looking very good, im tempted for the 225 steering wheel too. did the front mount make a big difference for you?

Hi Faisal. Firstly, the 225 steering wheel was a great edition; it feels much more substantial and supporting, and finishes the interior off nicely.

The FMIC for me was more of a 'luxury mod' tbh. I managed to get a very good deal and it had been something that I wanted to do for a long time. There is definitely an improvement noted in the way it pulls; not laggy and is responsive through the rev range, and it seems to compliment other induction mods that I have. However, I haven't had it remapped and so I won't feel the true benefits until this happens.

I hope this helps? Thanks for the kind words buddy :)

Hi gb, biased I know but I agree about the colour......:D

I've had the sound proofing off for a couple of years now. In all that time, I've had no issues at all. For anyone that might be wondering, I removed it as I liked the clean look that it provided.

As an observation, the paint is slightly thinner underneath than on top and I don't think there's much lacquer on there but I've just made sure that I've kept up with the protection to minimise the chance of staining, etc. With regards to the outer surface, it's been fine.

What issues are you having? Heat transfer causing damage to the lacquer? Discolouring? Oxidisation? It's strange because I haven't heard of anyone encountering any problems with removing the sound proofing. I'm confused now..... If you are having paint trouble then it's a shame because your paint finish still looks in great condition!

I hope all is well mate?

Oh, phew.... In that case, absolutely no problems mate. Like I said, I've found that keeping the underneath well waxed and maintained has protected it from staining, etc. Some might think this is perhaps a little overkill but, it's for piece of mind.

P.S. It's nice to hear the engine being a little more vocal :D

Thanks,

James.

Really great thread and a beautiful car maintained to a high standard with a very good list of mods! Really impressive mate :)

Also like what you have done with the twin air feed, might have to steal that idea and use it myself lol

Thanks Coops. The twin airfeed really has made a huge difference, in my opinion; especially with my most recent induction set up. It gives a nice sound to the induction and recirc valve too. It didn't cost me all that much to do and was well worth it!

Thanks for the kind words mate :)

Lovely car I must say - very accurate thread, like this a lot. I met Mike Brewer once he came into my Dad's Cafè and I served him - he was with Penny someone rather when they used to film 5th Gear (I think).

Awesome looking car chap. :)

Loads of inspiration for me as new LCR owner. :help:

I fancied a yellow or red one but gave in to the better half's demand for a black one! :wtf:

Plenty of cleaning for me!

Thanks Maz. I will do. I usually use the Autoglym Aqua Wax, as a top-up, but read and heard good things about the Ultimate Quik Wax and Detailer; with the detailer, good beading is reported. Probably like Dodo's Red Mist but I have to say that I didn't get on too well with that. I really miss the summer!

Hope things are improving with the pipe fixings Maz. I'll keep following :)
