Anti Shudder Valve - Wingnut mod is good!

Since getting the car back it, the engine wasn't shutting down smoothly. I didn't take much notice of it until i took the car out today and drove around to bed in the brakes more (peddle feel is getting a tad better). Coming back and letting the car cool down before turning off it shuddered roughly more than it did previous days. My mind started ticking over and various thoughts like a potential flywheel problem could be looming. The way in which the car shut down reminded me of strugers1 tdi. I knew he had a EGR replacement pipe from Allards but my brain didnt click

Messaged brad and 3 minutes later problem resolved!

Brad1 knocked my two brain cells together and led me on the right path. Looked under the bonnet and saw the ASV vacuum pipe was not plumbed in, plugged it back in and smooth turn off restored. Really not sure why I didn't bother to check earlier.

This has definitely reinforced my opinion of keeping the ASV by doing the wingnut mod on the EGR. I just couldn't live with the car shutting down like a lorry. Felt like the flywheel was going to ping off the car. Definitely a 5 star mod, smooth shutdown and protects you against a runaway.

Spare Alloy Wheel

After 1.5 years of the Leon Cupra R alloy sitting in the garage and 9 months after I got it refurbed to match existing alloys, it is finally in the car!

I borrowed 4937Liam's idea of bubble wrapping it for the time being until I can carpet the wheel well. The problem I had was that the alloy fixing bolt to hold the alloy firmly in place was not long enough.

937Liam - if your reading this did you purchase another one?

I will drive the car around and see if there is any movement. The OEM foam housing is a little too small for the LCR wheel so will need to invent something to keep that in place. Will ring SEAT tomorrow and see if the LCR has a different alloy fixing holder (not sure of the name).

Hey mate - the metal screw was just slightly too short but because everythings fits in really quite tightly it doesn't move around at all. I adapted the foam that houses the oem jack with a stanly knife and in the end it sat completly flush within the alloy. Once bubble wrapped with the boot carpet over the top its completly flat.

Liam.

Cheers for the replies guys.

DK took some pictures for me and it looks totally different to what I have. I think I will order the foam bit and the screw if possible.

2260VK? Should I or??

Right I am having trouble sourcing the cam. Not sure whats going on with colt cams but they are really slow with email replies and despite my enthusiam for the product and willingness to part with £600+ notes is not enough for them...Not sure whats happening at the moment. Apparently they are waiting on new cores coming in end of november.

So I found a chap who can supply me with a 2260vk which is a genuine big turbo. He will suply manifold, flange for downpipe and convert electronic actuator. I will have to make TIP, Turbo Outlet connect and then sort out the mapping. It wont happen over night and it will get planned properly before going on the car.

I reckon is going to cost me a good £1500 to start with then more later.

With this turbo I will easily outflow the injectors but my main aim is to get it fitted and attain around 250bhp and a torque curve to die for. If the money allows in the future I can purchase injectors and uprate rods to push for the magical 270-300 bhp barrier.

Really not sure. There is a next step for the car but I am not sure what that is...watermeth? Turbo? Cam? Injectors? Opinions welcome.

Leon FR tdi - Gleammachine Detail

As you all may be aware my car were damaged by cement containments from building works carried out next door to me. I booked an appointment to do a joint detail with Rob @ Gleammachine today and here are a few pictures taken by Gleammachine.

I have taken pictures of the detail throughout the day so a full writeup will be coming tonight or tomorrow.

I have to say Rob @ Gleammachine is a true master of the art. It was amazing exchanging ideas about detailing and I am sure with this additional knowledge I can continue to improve my work ongoing.

What I am really pleased to report back is that my approach to detailing and keeping the car swirl/scratch free paid off. Under the inspection of the myriad of lights the paint condition was fantastic to which rob commented. This pleased me no end and had a fantastic day all in all :)

The paint looks fantastic Maz. I look forward to hearing how you found the experience of working with a professional detailer.

Hopefully the builder's escapades can well and truly be put behind you now :)
