Thanks super_electric. Your car looks great. Can I ask, are you pleased with the P-torque remap? I've heard some really positive things about them.

Thanks for taking the time to read through the thread :)

My car is a love hate relationship at the moment lol…. And I did have another map on the car which did not work out to great so had it taken off in the end but it did give me a better comparison tho between the p-Torque map which is great can see why a lot of people recommend him and travel quite a distance.

The Dodo Juice is a rotary polisher. I haven't even opened it yet as I haven't had time. It will probably get used when I detail the cars with Rob @ Gleammachine.

Well you done a splendid job, so whatever your doing keep doing it.

Cheers,
Maz

EDIT: get a remap, dont think you know what your missing. Also get rid of the BMC, they are very restrictive. :)

A remap sounds like a good idea. I think once all the cosmetics are up to standard, I’ll definitely look at a remap, as long as the engine and turbo stays strong. I have to be honest and say that I'm a little under-confident with the longevity of the engine if it was to be remapped. But then I guess a good 'mapper' would rolling road the car and look for any areas of concern before putting on a map. I wouldn't want it to be an aggressive map but a nice progressive curve would be nice; would certainly put a smile on my face I'm sure!

Now, regards the BMC... I think it is generally the consensus that BMCs are pants... You might ask yourself the question "well why has he still got it then?". Truthfully, I like it. It's subtle without being too noisy and along with the twin airfeed and Forge Split-R, the spool and lift off sounds great. I know you're probably thinking :doh:at this point....

I have considered getting a green cotton open cone filter, as good gs's were reported by Wild Willy if my memory serves me correctly. If I did buy one, I would look to incorporate the current twin airfeed set up and perhaps make a circular heat shield to generally keep a trickle of cool flow. I suppose I could even use the outer casing of the BMC for this. Hmmm... I knew it would be a bad idea to come on here lol.

Thanks once again for your kind words Maz.

Looking very nice, love LCRs in this colour

Real nice work done to this car, top job fella!!

Thanks everyone.

Yes, it's a nice colour and looks great when it's clean but it's a PITA to keep it that way! At the moment, there seems to be a lot of loose tar on the roads where I live and the tar spots stick out like a sore thumb. The Meguiars clay is a great bit of kit! As is the Autoglym intensive tar remover.

On this subject, has anyone heard of using petrol/diesel as a removal agent? I know a couple of people that use this to remove stubborn marks without detriment to the paint work but I've always had reservations over this.

I managed to finish work a little early this afternoon so once home, with the sun out, I washed the car using Ultimate Snow Foam with a snow lance and pressure washer followed by a wash with Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo, using a two bucket method and a wash mitt. I washed the door jams and wheels too. Once washed, I hosed the suds off before using a super-plush drying towel.

By this point, the light was beginning to fade so I called it a day. Here are a few pictures of the car after a wash.

Reading the weather forecast for tomorrow, it looks like it’s going to be dry and mild-ish so I plan to give it a clay and a couple of coats of wax. I’ll then find a nicer location than my drive, for a change, to take some more pictures :)

Finally, here are a couple of pictures of the rear ‘stance’ with 15mm H&R spacers and front with 5mm spacers fitted, to give you an idea if thinking of fitting spacers to your car.

Looks good mate! Regards to your coilover worries, I had mine fitted today, and the car rides better than standard :).

Thanks mate. I've just had a look on your thread and don't see any pictures yet :( I'll keep a watchful eye! It will be good to see what level you settled for. Glad to hear that you're pleased with them.

I'll get photos tomorrow mate, although the front needs to go a little lower.

Have you thought about a HID Xenon kit? Really good value mod for your money

I have given it some thought in the past yes but as the car is not my daily, I tend to be a little more selective when I do drive it. I know that HID Xenon kits give great visability and clarity but I just don't think I need them.

Thanks mate. I look forward to your pictures :)

Very nice and tidy motor James!

Nice car, and a good thread. Love the picture parked next to the phone box!

I would also just like to say.....REMAP! ;)

Thanks guys!

The picture of my car by the phone box was taken at the start of the year when we had all that snow. My driveway is sloped and so we had to keep our cars at the top. I had been randomly taking pictures of the snow, as there was quite a lot, and took this with no real intentions. This is one of the best 'arty' pictures I have of her, even though she is filthly!

James :)

Well... I didn't manage to spend as much time as hoped on the car today. After yesterday's wash, I had planned to clay the car today and put a good couple of coats of wax on. Because time was scarce, I could only apply some Autoglym Aquamist and some Dodo Juice Redmist, to top up the wax already on. No chance for some 'arty pics' as hoped :(

On a more positive note, I've followed the advice of some and decided to change the BMC CDA. Well, kind of.

I've ordered a Green PowerFlow Air filter from www.green-filter.co.uk. It has an 80mm inlet diameter, is 200mm in length and its width (at its greatest point) is 140mm.

As you know, I currently have a twin airfeed that is directly fed into the BMC, as pictured below.

241.jpg

The plan is to use the existing outer casing, as it is and replace the inner element of the filter. I am aware that the filter element is attached to the air inlet side so I imagine that I’ll have to carefully detach this without damaging the outer fitments. The new cone will be attached to the maf and encased so that the filter will not be visible.

I'm hoping that this new set up will improve efficiency of flow, as the BMC CDA is reportedly rather restrictive.

Well that’s the plan anyway. Sometimes my ideas don’t always achieve the desired outcome, but it’s worth having a go! The filter should hopefully be with me by next weekend so I’ll look to fit it then; shouldn’t take too long or be too difficult tbh.

Your car looks really smart and great detailed thread. Loving it keep up the good work :)

Thanks cupra-barn!

My replacement filter was dispatched today so hopefully that'll be with me by the weekend.

Having just looked at George3G's thread, I think I'm gonna have to seriously think about finally fitting the coilovers I have had laying around for the last year. Nice one George :)

Where did you get the primer, paint and lacquer (what make?) from you used on the engine cover? :D

I actually used Halfords grey primer and matt black aerosols. The lacquer is a high temp lacquer.

I've found from trial and error RDS that you have to be as thin as you can with the coats. Little and often. If you have a build up of paint that hasn't quite cured, it never will once another layer has been applied. This is why you get the bubbling effect, due to the heat given off by the engine.

Little and often with lots of prep before hand to ensure as good a key as possible. I literally applied a dusting of lacquer. I then let it dry for a week or so then applied a couple of layers of wax for added protection before fitting it.

Over the last year, it has lasted really well. Over the winter, I plan to sand it all back, fill the holes with an expandable resin before repainting. There is a spray shop near by and I might get them to spray it with a 2pk paint, as it is far more durable that an aerosol finish.

As a note, some don't bother with a lacquered finish. It is, of course, down to personal preference.

I hope this helps RDS?
