hey all,

i am jacking my car up tomorrow to have a look at the intercooler for boost leaks and maybe paint the brakes.

my question is,

where do i jack it up from and where do i put the axel stands?

if someone has a diagram or pictures that would be really helpful,

i have done a search and people have pretty much just said put it on the axel which isnt too helpful,

hopefully it will be obvious but better safe than sorry,

thanks

run your finger along the sill. There are two indentations, one near the front and one near the back of the sill. This marks the jacking points or have a look in the users manual

Axle stands, fitted with suitable slotted top mounts, shoild be placed at the four "car's own jack" jacking points as the frame is double skinned at these points.

Jacking the car up using a trolley jack can be done at the four points where there is double skins and a plugged drainage hole (used at factory and maybe even used to index the body on jigs). You will find these four points either by looking for them - the blacking plugs are thin plastic so can not get confused between them and other soft rubbery drainage plugs, or by using the jacking points as a search "term" on here or the Skoda site. For ease in future use of using these jacking points, you could buy and fit the AUDI TT jacking point protectors 4-off - they come in two parts - again use search for p/ns etc.

Under the back of the lower arm? Is this going to be obvious? Sorry to sound thick but i really haven't a clue,

If I put the axle stands on any safe part of the arms, will it be ok?

i always use the lower arm but the bit where the bush is mounted as if you put the axle stand on any other part of the arm you will be putting the suspension in the arch as you jack.

as you look at the wheel on the passenger side its the right hand side of the arm i hope that makes sence.

Look under the car.

Behind the jacking points. There are two long boxed sections of the chassis. If you knock these and listen you will hear theyre nice and solid. I always put the stands on these. It's ok saying put them at the jacking points...but where do you jack from to get the car up in the air in the first place if you want to do that? lol

Think they are the most unclear jacking points in the world.

There is a lip underneath the car and (supposed to be) little indents where the jack goes i think. Also look in the handbook and it says something like 15cm at one end and 12cm at the other.

Half the lip underneath my car was destroyed from what i can only imagine is mechanics not jacking it right, so i just went roughly to the CM stated in the guide book and didn't have any accidents.

Mine is the same, I've always jacked the car up at the correct points but the lip has now folded over and the sill visibly bows as the jack takes the car up. I think I'm lining myself up for a monumental fail soon.

What I tend to do when using axle stands is to jack the car up using the jacking points, then put the axle stands either directly underneath the ball joint (for the front) or the spring (for the rear). Both need the relevant wheel removing first, and I have no idea whether jacking up on the suspension components is a good idea. I figure that they're designed to carry the weight of the car anyway, so there isn't much difference between the weight being on the wheel or on the axl stand.

And this doesn't work if you're working on the suspension...

when using stands (or jacking somewhere other than the designed jacking points) I normally use a bit of softwood (pine) to act as a pad to spread the weight a little and reduce risk of damaging car.
