Well yes they are my non-trackday wheels :)

Car aint too bad at the moment, got a new problem though. A knocking noise from the subframe area perhaps when starting and stopping. With the windows up it sounds like a knock, with the windows down it sounds like a cracking. How a look, checked all the bolts, cant see anything wrong, so will have to take it in to get looked at

Nae good like! I have a small issue with squealling brakes at the moment sometimes they are ok and othertimes you can hear me from a mile off.
I take it with your brake kit and pads you don't have the same issue? I wonder if Tarox gave me a set of race pads or something.

Hi Dan,
Great build, one for all the build enthusiasts to get excited about and try and copy.

I have not read all the pages so apologies if you have already mentioned but just a couple of questions from me as I begin the downward spiral of modding;

1. All that power still going through the front wheels? Of the handling mods which one was the most benefical in terms of keeping the car going forward!! Was it the LSD? I had planned to put a WALK and set of ARBs and possible some engine mounts from the S3 on mine? Is a 4WD conversion in your thinking or is this just silly money and not financial sense?

2. On your earlier picture (under the bonnet) you still have the engine cover on. Did you 'customise' this to fit the Induction kit in? I have my ITG kit on order and from what I agther the engine cover goes in the bin when fitting mine into a K1?

I really should update this soon. so much has happened over the last 6 months.

Anyway, in the meantime here is my latest graph:

I have a trick up my sleave involving no cost for a significantly high outputcoming soon hopefully :) Need to do some testing over the next few days.

is that plot for real?
400bhp?

really? :-o

1. Well, its alot of power yes, ok on a dry day. Its not like all my driving is racing off the line all the time struggling for grip.. So its not a problem really.
The LSD is no improvvment for a straight line generally. its designed to put the power down coming out of corners.
I really cant say what the best mod is for grip. really think the coilovers help though, maybe someone else has a better idea here. I guess the coilovers help keep the wheels more planted.
A AWD conversion is just silly money and maybe not even possible, so would never consider that, even though it would be good :)
Ive not gone for egine mounts yet, dont think I will bother.
A dogbone (pendulem) mount is supposed to help with wheel hop grately.
The WALK and ARB's (maybe just rear?) are both essential mods, and not too dear.

2. In regards to the engine cover. I cut mine up to make it fit, to keep the standard look :)
Yep, you wont need the engine cover with the ITG, and it wont fit :) You might want to keep it to put back to standard if going for warranty work?

SOz, that answers one of my questions!!

Well the issue was there was water getting under the bonnet somewhere, and at the time, the underbonnet lining was removed so was not soaking up the water. the under bonet lining is back, and not had the problem again, but have noticed sometimes the lining is soaked.

PS; it failed its 2nd MOT today due to baldness inside of one of the rear tyres. Nowhere has the Eagle F1's in until the end of April, so the Track wheels are going on until I source a new replacement.

Coilovers will help 100% because whats probably happening is the front end is lifting up like a raging wildebeest thus wheels are not getting as much contact on the road. Coilovers will help this.

Try driving a high powered car without a diff and you will realise how much it does help - its shocking.

holy sh!t. thats really interesting to look at as well, totally different torqu curve to the k03 and k04. im looking into getting an older vRS estate next year, and putting a big turbo on it to make a proper sleeper.

if you were to do this again, would you go with the APR stage 3 kit, what would you add/remove from your mod list. would youstill go for the GT2871 or would you go bigger?

I know this post is getting on a bit but if you ever want to sort the water ingress it comes in around the black trim on the back edge of the bonnet. You undo all the T25 screws under the back edge of the bonnet and that trim pops up. New clips are available that have seals on them. This stops the water seeping in.

Have you got a part number for the sealed clip's please Techie?

Love the 2871R response, had it for a while but wanted some more power and went bigger. Nice setup.
