Scott, do you have VAG-COM/VCDS?

AFAIK the calibration on the dash can only be +/- 7 litres. I managed to adjust it by that figure on my dad's A6 using VCDS but I've never had to do it on an Ibiza, it may not even be possible. His gauge is faulty, but can't afford to change it yet.

I believe BBA Reman repair dash clusters, it might be contacting them to see if they can refurb it for a good price?

Does the gauge seem to settle at half full then make an immediate drop to 1/4, or does it creep down slowly? If you do have VCDS, there is an output test of the cluster you can do, which may highlight a faulty cluster.

yeh i have vcds but need a keygen as it doesnt work without it, i have a copy of other vagcom but wont run on my windows 7 x64......how do i go about doing this? will it help? its gradual drop but big gaps at a time, you can watch it kindof, you can look at it then 2 mins later again and its dropped again, only seems to do it at certain points tho, the last quarter tank doesnt tend to do it, seems to be higher up the gauge

I've heard faulty fuel gauge can be either the sender or the dash clocks themselves - it's a sealed unit though so it's about £500 at the dealers, don't know if they can just recalibrate them??

if i got them from a scrappie i wonder if my bro cud program them, he works for VW and they have a computer?

I've no idea how you make VCDS run on W7 x64. Sorry. I'm obviously very old fashioned still running XP (albeit with a Vista transformation pack).

If you did manage to get VDCS working, and run an output test of the cluster (which makes the cluster disregard any fuel sender readings) you could see if the needle moves smoothly across the whole gauge. If it appears to jolt in the 1/4 - 1/2 area of the gauge, rather than move smoothly, you can be pretty sure the cluster has failed.

If you got a gauge from a scrappie, it could be recoded to your existing immobiliser, and it would also need to be mileage adjusted. It just depends whether your bro's computer lets them do it.

I do know of someone else who will recode a used cluster and correct the mileage for ~£60, but he's in Mansfield which is quite a long way from you.

iv done cluster tests b4 and all seemed fine, vcds works on it but i dont have a keygen so doesnt do much, will check the cluter again when i get vagcom working

happnin scott, how easy was ur red S badge to do? did you pop the silver s out?

I did mine too, its not that hard tbh. I didn't take out the S out myself, just painted round it with a very thin paintbrush and any marks i made i used paint stripper on. Worked a treat

Btw scott you did an awesome job cleaning, the car looks even better clean :D
