Just got an Altea Stylance with cruise control. Ive noticed that it works fine and then after a few times of using it...maybe on a return journey it wont engage to a new 'set' point. Im thinking I must have finger trouble but am I right in saying that under acceleration as long as its 'on' then when I press 'set' it should hold at this new set point...or is there some funny reset sequence. I realise that once the brake pedal is pressed the cruise control is de-select but a press of 'Res' should send the car back to the last 'set' point?

What do you think guys? back to dealer?

That is also a common problem as well !. LOL.

OK common problems:

Cruise Control
Heater / aircon playing up
Radio switching itself on by it's self and sometimes running the battery down

Basically the cruise control problem which I had and is the same as everyone elses it starts as intermittent and can change to always not working. If you switch off and restart it can fix itself.

They changed the stick under warranty, the issue is if it can't be replicated during the time the garage has it. Mine started working again and I was getting one of those frank conversations being told that I didn't know how to use it. The guy said you can drive up the road with me if you want but there is nothing wrong with it. The test equipment didn't diagnose it and he had taken it for a spin. I took him up on his option, two roundabout and it was working, by the next round about it stopped working.

The mechanic sort of refused to accept it still pushing the button down whilst I was driving and we were slowing up with cars behnd. When a police car got behind us, I suggested we should stop :). Then when we got back he said they had changed a number, so evidently they don't like changing them if they don't have to. They ordered the part in.

Well when you are heading along and you press the down bit of the stick it should click in. You can adjust the speed up once it's in by pressing up and holding on, letting go when it's just right. To resume and there is nobody around in front you just press up and it takes you to that speed. Good with a DSG. Cruise control handy for all those 30 / 40 MPH speed limits.

Great stuff - thanks...I think its going back to the dealers then...sounds exactly what weve got. Shame - only had the car a week and am really chuffed with it.

It is a good car, I don't have major complaints, there are just a few common problems. Like any electronic equipment, parts fail in the first year, after that things settle down. I've had binding brakes and that was a stone in the front although they don't release too fast sometimes once applied. I'm told some are like this that salt etc stops them moving back out as fast as they should do. Other than that, no real problems.

Sorry an old thread but I am having this issue with cruise control where by it will either work or not.

Today I got it working and was fine in till I engaged my indicator to change lane and as the indicator cancelled the cruise control stopped working.

My car has no warranty so is there a way to fix this my self? or check for common fixes?

I have the air-con stopping one as well ie. no fan as well as the above. The solution to this is to pull out the main fan fuse and put it back in. Interesting, I'm not convinced that it doesn't also fix the cruise control issue as well. I know the above link says dirt on the contacts but my long time cruise control problem goes away again when I have to do my fuse trick when the air con / heater packs in [that averages about every six months]. Computer control, a re-boot does the trick I reckon. For the record the radio switching on by itself solution is to leave a CD in it, that problem is related to a microswitch which must get jarred by moving traffic when parked up.

Can you point me in the right derection, what fuse and where? as there is about 4 fuses that corrospond to the blower system, and nothing that says cruise control. Is it a small 10amp type or a larg block type?

I'm also seeing this issue with the Cruise control. Only really use it on long journeys and it's still working far more times than not but would also be interested in a fix if we have one.

Had the same cruise control issue with my 1st Altea. It would only work if I engaged it within 1/2 an hour of ignition on. Any longer and it wouldn't engage. Haven't had any issues at all with my 08 one though. :D. Probably cursed it now. But I dont care. Picking up the new one on Monday.

It's fuse 56 under the drivers side that is the main aircon fuse [2004 model with climatic control] that I was talking about which fixes in my case the aircon not working, it's a reboot. The other method which was placed on the board for rebooting the aircon, button presses is perhaps a soft boot, doesn't work form me, this one done.

The point I was making was that my cruise control issue has also gone away each time I pull this fuse although it could be a coincidence. Makes me think that the disconnect of the stalk and cleaning is just the disconnect that does it, rather than the cleaning, but I could be wrong. Report back....

Thanks Tell, I did this pulled out fuse 56, turned car on to make sure the fan was not working, then turned car off, replaced fuse and Cruise Control has worked every time :D

I tend to think it also fixes the cruise control as well but I'll leave the theory of the wiring curcuit to come one else, but in the history of the car I had the stalk switch changed once as this thread says, then I get the cruise control issue but never spend any money fixing it, but it fixes itself after I fix the aircon failing.... so yes, pretry sure it's not my imagination.

I would be a bit careful about pulling other fuses at random since I think one of them twigs your air bag service light on and you have to have that reset at the garage [the panel fuse]. I did that one when the car went totally dead, think it was dampness in so far as it would not continue to run after ignition, but 12 hours latter all fine, except the air bag light.
