Leon 1P Vag-Com Cable ** Canbus OBD Diagnostics**

gave up, mine wont work at all, i assume i mistakenly connected to the internet and the cable got screwed by ross-tech. ordered another one and will be more careful this time (switch wireless off when im using vag com!) and make sure every ross-tech entry in my hosts file is pointing local. Oh well another couple of weeks waiting wont hurt.

I thought on an older post on this thread you could re enable blocked cables?
I've seen websites that do this, if not try some of the MK5 gti boys they have a wealth of knowledge on the subject of vag-com.

Yeah I've tried that numerous times. It doesnt work. Tried it on 3 pc's Whoever extracted that "fix" has missed outa huge part of the repair guide (which I found on another site). The actual repair involves soldering of some tiny pins on a chip inside the cable, and butchering of a pc LPT printer cable, then reprogramming the chip. By the time I've faffed around with all that its just easier to order another cable and put it down to experience. Not that I like throwing away £25 but I'll be a damn site more careful next time :(

well we have all learnt the hard way eh.. it could have been worse though at least it is only the cable.

I have a question about using vag com now. I have been playing around and managed to activate the bleep on locking and coming home lights. The problem i have is when i go into the long coding nearly everytime it says it is missing a .xpl file and so the names of what each bit does is missing making it near on impossible to change any of the long coding stuff, does anyone else have this???

Also would it be possible to use a newer version of vag com and just disable the internet on this??

That sucks pal.
I'd email them back demanding a refund and return the unit. Then order a new one. You might aswell order the new one then keep at them about the old one. Better to get your money back too. Did you order the one from post #8 or #36?

Yeah not every (BIT) has a description next to it on mine. Under some (Bytes) there are just boxes some checked and unchecked. This is only on some and not alll.

Not sure about running another version of Vag Com. Is it possible to just load another version without loosing any settings from v704?

phantombantom- I dont have auto lights on mine and i have activated the coming home lights. I could already activate the lights - them staying on after i leave the car through the mfd. I can now adjust them to come on when i unlock the car through the mfd too

doesnt matter you can still enable it, it just means that to change the amount of time the lights stays on you need to do that using vag com

For anyone still having trouble with the hosts file changes - goto Run, Type in cmd hit enter. Then type ping ross-tech.com - if it states pinging [127.0.0.1] its working ok.

I dare not load it as it's running fine with the v704. Have you tried it yet mate?
Does the latter version have a 0-62/100 and 1/4 mile timer built into it?

Or does anyone know if the older version does that somewhere? and I'm not talking about doing a distance over time calc. Apparently some versions have a button you press to activate the timer and it it starts the second the vehicle is moving and then stops when you reach the desired speed or distance.

Not sure how accurate is compared to gps timers, must be better than the one on my old phone. I put some 25second quarter mile times in using that lol. must have had about 11 seconds of lag :p

You may also need to set the duration to more than 0 seconds, not sure where, in some adaption somewhere, same module as you turned the leaving home on.
