right finsihed my gardening now so going to shower off and hav ea play. Just to clarify i need to plug the cable into the car first wait a short time then plug into the computer and off i go??:D

yeah 704 pal. Does everything I need it to do.
If you follow DanGB's guide it's good, but my FR TFSI has different bits and bytes. For example the locking beep was under 10 instead of 6. But if you follow it the guide you get the jist of it and you just basically click on the different bytes to see what is under each one.

great piece of kit 10/10.

Yeah i left it in for 30 seconds then plugged it in. Ran the test like an earlier post suggested and it detected it no problems.

Make sure key is turned in the ignition so your dials are lit etc or the software won't receive a response from the cable...

****!!! I cant get mine to work I plugged it into the car, turned on the ignition, left it a short while then plugged it into my laptop. Loaded up vag com, did the test and nothing!!!!! Just get an error message. I dont know if it is because i am using a mac and have to use windows in a virtual machine so i may try it later if i can find a laptop.
I can hear something rattling around too inside the cable, only sounds small shall i open it to investigate?!?!?

Hmm I'd try it with a laptop first mate, if it doesn't work with that then I'd open in it up to se what's going on in there.

I'm not sure how the whole Mac vs Windows works in regards to software etc.
You definately pushed the cable in? do you get acknowledgement that a USB device has been fitted? on the test screen have you made sure the USB box is ticked or dotted?

If you go to the main menu can you access any of the sections like coding? Can't remember if this was before of after cable was identfied but i was asked what car it was being plugged into (1P Leon)

I got a great fault code: 001056 - Catalyst System; Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold

Could be something to do with the 3inch Decat Downpipe

Hi Craig,

have you made sure it's pushed in tight? and the engine is either on or at least your instrument cluster is illuminated?

You're running the V704 software?

All spenny did second time round was use a windows laptop instead of his Apple Macintosh.

Did you install the USB drivers after you installed the software? should have been a pop up screen asking?

Yeah it came up installing driver then ross tech interface when i connected it (was plugged into car with ignition on first). PC sees it but vagcom saying interface not found. Looked in device manager and says working properly.

How far does it need to be pushed in on car? Green led comes on on it.

It is beta version of vagcom 812.1 which came on disc with cable.

you do need to use the 704 software. I found my problem was letting the drivers install. I plugged the lead into the car and left it for 30 seconds. I then plugged it in to my laptop and agin waited, i didnt load vag com. Once windows had detected the cable and the drivers were installed (dont select update i just pressed cancal and let windows find the driver) i then started up vagcom and chose test and everything worked. Hope this helps... I just found to do everything slowly and this worked for me

gave up, mine wont work at all, i assume i mistakenly connected to the internet and the cable got screwed by ross-tech. ordered another one and will be more careful this time (switch wireless off when im using vag com!) and make sure every ross-tech entry in my hosts file is pointing local. Oh well another couple of weeks waiting wont hurt.
