You were right to go back straight away, they should have been more polite that's for sure. I don't know what they check on PDI, probably only mechanicals, but surely they check for manufacturing issues. Such as scratches... i.e. QC - quality control. Now trust me, you want this car and no you don't want anything less than perfect, so get what you can out of them, even if you have to have a red one.

These car's are superb, love mine, shame you've had issues with the car and a dealer who I would defo raise a little more than an eyebrow with. Stick with it mate.

If it wasn't for the fact that I still think I'm getting a very good deal I would have gone elsewhere, other dealers either couldn't offer me a Bocanegra for a good few months due to their stock allocation and/or the £1000 customer loyalty discount, that said I'm still obviously quite pissed off and if I could take my money elsewhere I probably would have done by now.

I've just had a call from the sales manager who told me that they've managed to get hold of a replacement that had been ordered as a demonstrator by another dealership and it's currently on a boat, he said that he'll be in touch when they have more of an idea about when it will be delivered, he also agreed to cover the excess on the Altea I'm using up to £500 but I really want this confirmed in writing.

I think I'm still going to send a formal letter of rejection quoting The Sale of Goods Act along with a covering letter which mentions both the courtesy car insurance excess and that I expect some kind of remuneration as a result of the inconvenience.

Needless to say I'll be taking a small entourage with me to pick up the replacement and going over it with a fine tooth comb!

Hi there

Stick with it. I purchased my Boc from there in January and they were pretty helpful (Probably cause they wanted to get their paws on my Focus ST which is still being driven by one of their staff) Mine was spotless when it arrived and no problems at all. The only thing I can complain about is an annoying rattle, drumming vibrating noise at about 4500 rpm from somewhere. I am sorry to hear about your experience, I went there after going to Perrys in Aylesbury and having a thouroughly poor experience there. I purchased 3 different Focus ST170's and ST from them. Went to buy my Boca from them and they could not even bother following up on the sale and the lad in there basically could not be bothered. It was like I was thought of as a Sunday afternoon tyre kicker.
Maybe allow them to redeem themselves. maybe try and squeeze them to a set of the stainless steel SEAT kick plates as compensation for all the hassle.;)

good luck

Sorry to hear about the problems you've been having - as other have said you expect cars to be perfect when you buy them new.

On the subject of compensation, you'd have to demonstrate how you're out of pocket by the experience, unnecessary petrol costs to the dealership etc... they're very unlikely just to start handing out cash because you're unhappy. There has to be a demonstrable financial loss on your part...

that said, they may throw in some mats ;)

Mats and a full tank are already included in the price, at the moment I just want to get the car sorted, once I'm satisfied with the replacement I'll discuss it further with the dealers, I've just finished drafting a letter to the sales manager.

I think I'm also going to take the matter up with SEAT UK, as I see it they are just as responsible as the dealers, if not even more so...after all the dealers didn't build it!

Shame to hear about your problems mate , i know where you are coming from , dont hold your breath with customer care , the most you will get out of them is a free service or extended warranty , in comparrison with the problems i have had yours is very small , but they have your money now and you wont get change from them.

keep us informed.

Sorry to hear of your trouble! Glad they've found a replacement, hope you wont have to wait too long! How about getting them to supply and fit the Eibach springs and maybe the boot spoiler (similar to the Mk2 Leon Aero) for your inconvenience?!

Bocanegra returned less than 5 minutes after leaving the stealers! UPDATE: 23/04/

Well I ended up writing the formal letter of rejection quoting The Sale of Goods Act and sent it to the sales manager at SMC on 14/04/10 (via recorded delivery). To cut a long story short I reiterated that I didn't want that vehicle and the reasons why, my displeasure at the way I had been treated and the fact that they currently have my deposit, the balance and the Leon FR that I was PX'ing. I also asked for written confirmation that they would cover the first £500 of the £1500 excess on the courtesy car I'm using and that my Leon FR was not to be sold until I was happy with the replacement Boc.

The sales manager's response was apologetic, and he confirmed the insurance excess details and stated that my old vehicle would not be sold until I was happy with the replacement. However, with regard to my complaints about the condition that my new Boc arrived in I think that the dealership are going to be taking one almighty sidestep and letting SEAT UK deal with the fallout; he stated that he would be passing all of my comments on, to be honest I don't hold the dealership responsible, yes they should have inspected it prior to collection, but ultimately it's SEAT that built and delivered it.

I'm not going to to let go of this but my only concern now is that I don't have an "in" at SEAT UK to complain to and if I just phone up or email them I'm going to get lost in the ether, any suggestions?

On a brighter note the letter did say that they were expecting the replacement around the 25/04/10, I'll believe it when I see it, and I think I'm going to be taking my Dad along this time, he's a panel beater so I'll let him give the replacement a good going over before I take it anywhere.

Defo, good luck mate and I hope that it all goes better for you this time round. I am sure they will also be sure to make sure there are no issues with the replacement one.

I'm sure the other day you mentioned that you live in Harlesden, I work in and around the area so to speak, might have to pop round to see your Boc!

Re: Bocanegra returned less than 5 minutes after leaving the stealers! UPDATE: 23/04/

^ Will do mate, let me get the new Boc first, the Altea is just an embarassment plus I'm at home to in sunny Sunbury-on-Thames!

So I've just finished writing an email to SEAT UK, initially I phoned their customer care team and spoke to a chap whose sole purpose seemed to be to deflect any blame away from SEAT UK (can't say I blame them I suppose), he said that the dealer should have inspected it properly prior to collection which I think we all agree on and my complaint should be with them, however, he also said that the vehicle should have been inspected at port prior to shipping and I refuse to believe that there is no quality control at the factory.

Anyhow, he was unwilling to give me the contact details of the aftersales area manager and told me to either send and email or write a letter to SEAT UK, well I've just finished writing the email but I'm really not sure how far it's going to get me, it seems to me that SMC will argue that SEAT UK is responsible and vice versa, not impressed.

I don't suppose anyone in the know could slip me those contact details via PM could they?

Assuming that Peter Wyhinny is still the Managing Director of SEAT UK then I have just sent a rather scathing email to what I think is his email address (I tried a couple of different ones actually), and none of them have bounced back yet, get in!
