New grille

It's been some time since I've wanted to remove the badges from my Toledo, mainly because I couldn't think of anything to put on the front. Cupra options exist, but the middle grille is very slightly different so I was a bit stuck.

Anyway, I decided to do it the old fashioned way, and bought some aluminium mesh...

I'm quite happy with the way it came out. The bonnet catch was the most fiddly job, having to figure out how to get it to pop out at the right angle was a nightmare! It's also really difficult to photograph, the gloss black always seems to play tricks on the camera and make things look like they're at odd angles. As they always say, 'things look better in person'.

I think my next job will be to remove the badges off the back, and I think I'm going to stick the 'V5' logo in the bottom corner of the middle grille. I think its the Golf VR6 or the R32 that does a similar thing.

could of done an easyer option you can by a grill from ebay just the centre bit looks like the nomal one just no badge for £20

Is there any chance you could send me an item number? I've been looking for the past year and only found one that fit the slightly shorter Cupra centre bit.

Obviously it's a bit too late, but I am still interested in 'what could have been'...:D

Do you have a picture where you can see more of the car -- I can't decide if I like it or not from this one :) Other than that -- valiant effort subduing the bonnet catch :)

What's next? Sorting out the soggy handling!! :)

I've got a full set of powerflex bushes on their way for the suspension, I'm tempted to do the engine mount and steering rack as well but I'm not sure yet. And I have my eye on a whiteline antiroll bar for the back. If they don't fix the wayward suspension, it'll then be coilovers!

Oh, I've just had a look at your mod progress thread for inspiration, and noticed you're looking to sort out your interior grab handles? I had the same problem, the rubber coating was scratched and worn. I took the covers off (just popped off with a screwdriver) and went at them with some soapy water and a scouring pad. It took the rubber coating off, and left me with a smooth plastic handle.

dvance, I would do a full car picture, but at the moment the car is being used to transport chopped up trees and bushes to the recycling centre, so it's in a right state!! I'll take a full picture once I get it cleaned up.

Depends if the grab handles in the rear have been used much but you can swap the front to rear like I did but they wore again after time. Because mines gone now I'm likely to soon have some sill plates and aluminium dead pedals up for grabs if and when I decide not to go for another V5.

I was thinking of putting a golf v5 badge in my front grill before but never did. Not sure of doing it in the centre bit - I would say nearside grill towards the centre grill. I think Golfs and Audi's normally go for an off centre look.
