someone around here has a pd100 (which i could only presume to be the same engine as the 105 golf) and it now has 174hp! must be some potential there. best off looking at some golf forums i reckon.

golf is heavier. what'd be the point? The ibiza is more likely to catch people out imo, nobody expects it to be as quick a car as it is.

Its probably because its better built! haha.

The Golf speaks quality & I've experienced the Ibiza to make me want something better built.

The sport/FR Ibiza are good motors, but its spanish Build quality :p

i agree with the seats not being as well built as vw but what do you actually want out of the car ? cheap insurance , well built not a sporty hot hatch , cheap to run , cheap to buy , and stupidly fast  . What you are asking for doesnt exist

Surely the Engine classifies the Insurance?

Its a major job swapping the engine as I would have to get the immobiliser & ECU programmed to work with the New motor. I get the Impression that I would need the ECU which came with the engine as it effects how it performs?

nope depends on so many other things than the engine . you should prop give up on this before you start ;)

Or just change the injectors and turbo on the pd100/105 to get you past 200? Only thing is you won't have the 6sp 'box though

You could always opt for a Mk 4 Golf GT Tdi , as it seems as if its a golf your after , cheaper too than a Mk 5 , I'll stick with my Ibiza PD130 which shocks most people when they ride in it and it certainly keeps me grinning , all that after owning a Renault Clio 172 before .

Bang for your buck??
Pick up a pre-facelift 130sport for £3.5k, spend £500 on remap and rear ARB. Maybe rear spacers as well. = £4k for a powerfull and very economical hatch thats only group 8.

I'd be carefull if buying a diesel golf, lots of poor examples out there that were ex-fleet or just poorly looked after mile-munchers. The ibiza sport/Fr is more underated and so owners tend to be more interested in cars/driving/car care than the mass market golfs IMO.

Just my 2p
