changing exhaust manifold

hey quick question, my exhaust mani is blowing out somewhere. not sure if it gaskets or mani cracked. mechanic is real busy at min and was wondering is it hard to change or just matter of taking off an putting on again. do i need below the car to do it as well. would try it myself but being a novice i would hate to start an not be able to finish!! thanks

It's a bit of a lottery TBH.

If you have all the tools and a very good releasant spray it should be quite easy.
But if you are too rough and snap one of the studs you'll be in a world of pain.

It's a bitch of a job to actually swap/remove the manifold as some of the nuts are really hard to access.

The gaskets either side of the turbo hotside are easier.

cheers will maybe hold out for mechanic knowing my luck would break a stud!! just sounds awful

It's very true what DPJ has said tried changing my manifold for a new tubular one took me 12 hours to get old one off new one on then found out I couldn't access the nuts to bolt the thing to the turbo so had to put standard one back on, gave it to AmD to do in the end took them a day and half to fit it and I think the mechanic who fitted it was ready to beat me to death with the old one.

how much did they charge to fit a new one?
i can get me hands on a manifold as mines fooked blows like crazy when its cold and im no mechanic so no chance of me doing it

not got done yet! took a while seat to get gaskets then the bad storms last week knocked off the power for a week or more then easter hols! just not happeneing for me.lol. shouldnt imagine it would be to much if came off easy enough
