Did my first proper track day in the purple one and I loved it!
Didn't get a great deal of track time due to red flags and the fog which ended play early, still enjoyed it and can't really grumble.
First session I was a bit nervous and took it fairly easy, the track was wet and very cold but my ditch finder street tyres did pretty well, traction was decent and I just had the usual understeer to deal with. I followed a skyline most the way around which kept my pace nice and settled, I would have liked to pass but speed was the issue........that comment sounds odd don't it, 8v
Ibiza wants to pass a skyline?
As I was getting confident a red flag closed the track
Second session and I was a lot more confident, which lead me to lock the brakes a few times. This is why mk2's need the ABS working, rear brake bias goes to pot and you poop yourself heading into a corner. I needed the run off at knickerbrook chicane
Guess what brought me back into the pits? Red flag!
I decided to book some tuition with a chap called Chris, cracking lad and got me carrying a lot more speed through corners. He watched me for a lap then a red flag came out....again. Had a long chat in the pit lane about my driving and the car, my lines where spot on which I was pleased with but I wasn't pushing it hard enough in the corners and I was backing off where there was no need. I was being careful on the brakes due to the locking which he could understand but I improved no end, makes it so much more fun when you know
how to push it. I'll defiantly be having more tuition in the future.
I let the car cool down after a hard stint of laps and headed back for the track.....but the fog had set in and put an end to the day early.
Cracking day and I have learnt so much, I was one of the slowest on track but the mk2 did a great job for what it is. Lots of improvements to make but main thing being the brakes. Get the ABS sorted, fit my yellow stuff pads, new disks, 5.1 fluid and clean the rear callipers.
Hope I haven't been to boring
Here's a few pics.
Cheers
