I fancy doing a coolant change on the ibiza and was wondering the best way to drain it, I think its been coverd before that there is a join in the pipe under the passanger side sill somwhere? Any help appreciated, also any pics of this join would be much appreicated.

as above, nearside lower pipe coming off rad has a tap. no tools needed, however the underside of the bumper may make it difficult to get a bucket underneath the drain pipe so a bit of pipe would be useful.

took 5 litres on my LCR. But that was drained properly including heater matrix etc.
for the leon most people say 4 litres total volume (coolant water), the ibiza should be much the same although i guess the radiator and/or matrix might be slightly smaller.
Dealers usually charge for 2 units of coolant.

It's at the back of the cars manual how much goes in I'm sure mate... most cars are about 4/5 litres though.

nah, just busy getting the engine all running like new mate, so its on the to do list. However looking at it, I think I will just get it done with the cam belt at the end of the year.

Make 100% sure you get the right type of coolant !!!

Think it's referred to as G12, it's reddy/pink in colour. You should double-check first. It probably says on the expansion bottle somewhere.
If you use the wrong stuff it can react with what's left inside and clog up your cooling system :)

Makes sense to get the water pump changed at same time as cambelt, they're renowned for failing on VAG engines (happened to me), so if you're going to change coolant that'll be the time to do it.

yer was going to get the pump done for a metal impella one, so would probably be good time to do coolant then anyway

Alright guys, I'm also changing the coolant in mine as the 'mechanic' i took it to kindly polluted my G12 with god knows what? Any way, anyone know how to make sure i've compleatly drained the system i.e. there's none left in the heater, oil cooler etc, and am i likley to get any airlocks when i refill???
Thanks in advance....

I would normally say simply drain with the heater for cabin on.. then refil.
But in order to be sure to have got rid of all the coolant in your case, id say that draining it, then filling with water.. running for a little bit with heater on max (to ensure there is circulation for all parts) then drain a second time before filling with with the correct coolant wouldnt be a bad idea.

Depends how thorough you want to be, :)

PS i got some G12 from the dealer 2 weeks ago and it was in 1.5litre bottles. So this is enough for 6 litres once mixed with water at a concentration of 50/50.

And don't always go with the colour. Plenty of 'red' coolant out there that isn;t suitable

Cheers for that - i do like to do things 'rite' so i might even give it 2 flushes to be sure, depends what colour the first one comes out... Getting 2 bottles of G12+ from GSF
(£8.56/1.5l) on my way home & 25l of de-ionised water from work....
Thanks again.
