I might be doing something very stupid but the RNS 510 touch screen system is supposed to be dvd compatible. I've put some mp3's onto a dvd-r and tried it in the drive. It comes up with "CD/DVD Disc Error".

I've tried different typres of dvd-r formatting but whatever I do it wont read the disc!!

It plays normal cd's ok though. I was hoping to put the dvd-r in and copy the music to the space on the units hard drive.

Long term i'm going to upgrade the Ipod connection for full compatibility, but for now I just want something other than the radio, that I can see the track names for too.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

Mine plays MP3 formated disc, can you check the disc on your computer again and see what format has gone on? [ it could be a player problem but I doubt it]

It does support DVD's, it how most of my music was transferred to my hard disc -

I always use Sony DVD -R 's if that helps :)

What software are you using to make the Data DVD?

Thats what I was trying to do mate............just as a temporary to get some music into the car!!

Just can't workout what I'm doing wrong!!!

I'm pretty sure its not a player problem.

The formated file structure says 'UDF'.

I'm using vista to burn the mp3 files onto the DVD-R. It give me two options: Mastered or Live File system.

I've used Mastered to close the session for use on other PC systems.

The DVD-R works in other PC's/laptopns woth DVD drives, but it doesn't work in the car.

Have you got access to Nero?

I always use Nero to burn mine, and have it set as a 'data' disc :)

I also use Nero to copy Map DVD's etc. without issues

I've not got Nero but I think i'll invest and give it a go, as I think its probably vista that is causing the grief!!

Cheers mate

I do not use MS VISTA or 7 but Nero 9 which appears NOT to have the security controls etc.!! see other chaps comments on this thread. .....................................................

Nice one. Cheers mate i'll give it a go :)

Hopefully it'll work as the radio is getting on my nerves now!!!

Hi Mate,

I gave cdburnerxp a go, and would you believe it that it does not recognise my CD/DVD burner drive!!!

So I tried putting some mp3 files onto a cd-r data disc and copied as I have been using the normal vista tools with the dvd-r's. Would you believe it that it read it straight away and allowed me to copy the music onto the hard drive.

But I still can't work out why it wont read A DVD-R, as it plays dvd's with no problem!!!

Any other thoughts about the dvd-r would be appreciated. Otherwise I need to by a load of cd-r's to copy my music over!!! :censored:

I wonder would a DVD+R make a difference, I'm not sure about the difference between the + and - but I remember years ago some DVD players were fussy about what they played. It'll probably make no difference but it's just a though.

Good idea mate. I'll get some in and give it a go.

I have also tried dvd-rw but no luck there either. There's a lot to be said for tape decks
