FR Face Lift 09>

Looking to buy a Seat Leon FR TDI 170

I have noticed there is a lot of stuff on forums regarding FRs but I am maybe hoping to go for the face lift model, does anybody know exactly which month in 2009 the FR TDI got the face lift?

Also I will be fitting an after market head unit and I notice that most of the guides regarding headunit fits on here seem to cover the 06-08 models and from what I can see the A/C etc is integrated into the headunit in the 09 on facelift dash. I could be wrong on that but would just like to make clear.

Are there any other differences in the facelift model bar the common rail diesel engine, cosmetic changes to the front bumper and the rear lights, stearing wheel and the dash?

still seperate from what i can see, the aircon is on the top panel and headunit is the lower panel..blanking plate may be different not sure if there are any dimension changes... process and connections should be the same. Don't know the month but you can tell by looking at the car in question if it's a facelift by the smaller more squashed front grills and the interior

The reason why I thought the a/c was intergrated was that the temps show up on the head unit display. It could be that the old one was the same mind you, not sure, but im sure someone will tell me.

I see, also anybody got anything to say to convince a VW Golf driver to go for a Leon, currently on my second Golf, 04 2.0GTTDI 140 ideally id like to go for GTD but way too much money. Do the FRs come with autotint rear view mirror, come home lights and autowipers as standard?

Nope, you need the convenience pack I believe. You can retro fit the autotint mirror though. There was a 'fred about it somewhere!

Oh and I moved from a Golf to a leon. I had a 1.9 TDI mach. When it was time I looked at your car, but I was just a little fed up with the slightly boring nature of the car. There is loads of them about, so I went for a leon. One FR came up with everything I wanted except the auto wipers etc but had the Aero body kit on so I went for it. (Not looked back!)

The facelift boot window goes all the way to the edges, it has an FR badge on the front bumper, different mirrors, bumpers, rear lights, different steering wheel and gear knob.
Mine was one of the first facelifts in the country and i got it in june 09!

Less the suspension the Leon FR TDi is mechanically and electrically a Golf GTD even down to the exhaust. A double din stereo or any VAG stereo will retrofit. The aircon (out of the MK IV Golf just differnt buttons) is on a seperate panal. But the standard stereo is very good and displays climate info as well as blue tooth and full track names and is very good TBH. About £225 option for the extra bits you want as part of a pack but still over 5K less than the GTD.

Go and give one a good long test drive if you like the looks inside and out I am sure you will be impressed and find it an easy stop from your Golf being another VAG product.

Thanks for that yeah might just do that. As far as head unit goes still think ill change it. Does anybody have iPod and or iphone integrated into their system.

In my golf i have iPod docked on a black dock that I mounted on the edge of the cuby hole on the double din fascia, that way I can actually use the ipod and I have it wired at the back to the head unit and a charger cable coming out from behind the dash just beside the 12v socket, so there are no visible cables and I can charge iPod when i need to. Have an iPod touch and going for new iphone when it comes out in the next few months, would like to wire it up so have iPod for music and iPhone for calls through blue tooth.

I know there are a lot of iPod interfaces that you control with the headunit but to me controlling the iPod itself is far suprior as you can see everything, sticking the ipod in a corner or the glove box takes the beauty away from it

The leon comes standard with a USB MDi (cup) interface and aux socket as standard. You just need the iPod lead another reaon to go for a stereo that will interface with the various control unit's. As the large MFD also displays track information I would recomend the Seat Media system (RNS 310). We just use a USB stick filled with songs but if you retro fit a stereo and loose the MDi interface you can use the Aux on your new stereo.

But do try and have a good play with the standard stereo before changing as latest version is excellent and you will loose some functionality on any non OEM system in the latest Leon.

iPhone works great with bluetooth and even downloads and displays the phonebook on the MFD. Again blue tooth is £220 and OEM system again for once is far better than a third party system we are very impressed with it. It come's included with the Seat Media system at £750. Speakers could be improved however even though the OEM ones are quite good. But I may change the front lower/mid at a later date.

Facelift MKII came out July 09 bigger mirrors and different front bumper are the instant give away especially FR/Cupra. Yours is a MKII which is what you may be getting confused with the Mk1 and thinking your is a facelift?

I have just ordered my new FR TDI and it now comes with as standard the convenience pack and hill hold. They have also put a new stereo in it. More like the VW style. I have had the options of 18" rims, Alacantra in silver and bluetooth. The car is going to be in Candy white as I alreday have that colour. I am also considering putting the Aero kit on it as well.:p
