Quick question, i'm buying a 150TDi fr+ thats done 58000 and just had it's 60000 mile service one owner from new bought and serviced from the same seat dealership it's entire life;

Question is this, is it worth continuing it's servicing by the stealers even though it's costs a fortune or have it done at a local garage?

I suppose the question is is it worth paying the extra service cost to help the value of the car??????????????

Your thoughts pls?

How long do you intend to keep the car?

If it's more than 1yr/12,000 miles - don't bother.

I think i'll like the car so will prob have it a year or two? I'm thinking that i'll have it until i can afford a decent speced newer model!!

Think about why you bought a car with a FSSH, if this ment alot to you it will mean alot to someone else.
Shop around for prices, also try VW/Skoda garages as they can be cheaper than Seat;)

I would go for a car with fssh over one withoiut but as cars get older things like that become less important, and i guess you have to weigh up the additional cost of the services against what value it might help the car hold??

I'm thinking in the long run it'll probably cost more than it'll be worth?:shrug:

I bought mine with fssh too, but that's because it was previously owned as a company car, and so obviously no expense spared.

I thought about continuing with SEAT for services, but they quoted me over twice the price of a local garage (not a vag specialist, but a very good garage who also services porshce, ferrari's etc. so locally he's very well respected), but obviously this local garage will mean nothing unless I sell it to someone local.

But in the long run it's worth it as I'll be saving hundreds of quid every year than if I went with SEAT! And I don't think I'd ever get that money back when I get round to selling it after 2 or 3 years of ownership!

Mine had seat service history when i got it. I think garage/dealer servicing is done to a low standard with cleanliness and finesse so i do all my repairs and servicing myself, always have done. i do a much better job!!

I had a renault laguna before the LCR and i did everything to that (apart from the MOT) i just kept all the receipts for parts through the years and when i come to sell it i got way more than i thought for it because the new owner thought it was very well looked after and clean and i proved all repairs/servicing with invoices for parts.

Service history in my opinion dont matter as long as you can prove what has been done.

And its cheaper doing it yourself

But to the masses and the non enthusiasts it does matter and when your selling a car you have to apeal to the masses.
I've got a B7 A4 with FASH and like you guys I do all the work myself but...I plan to keep the car for years.
Oh and my local Audi is £100 per hour:eek:

Mine had a FSSH when I bought it, it no longer does. I do it myself and do it twice as often as spec'd.

Wasn't something that I was looking for, as the dealer monkeys rarely know what they're doing, and never treat cars particularly well. As long as the car has a proper service history, it doesn't matter imo.

To be fair though, if I had a LCR I'd be wanting to make sure I kept the service book looking perfect, either going to SEAT or a VAG specialist, even if it did cost a bit more.

But as I only have a tdi110 I wont re-coup the costs, but with an LCR I'm sure it would make a big difference when coming to sell!

Thats true mate, i forgot to mention i always keep my cars for at least 5 years even more if i can so it dont matter to me on keeping its value with dealer service history.;)

and yes the hourly charge for garages that do a not so good job is disgusting!!!! :(
