Turbo cuts out

i was going up the motorway yesterday in 4th gear....put my foot down and could feel the pressure from the turbo on the pedal...but then it disappeared and i was stuggling to get any speed....i resolved this by turning off the engine and immediately turning it back on.
whats the deal? anyone know whats wrong with it? its the 1.9 tdi 110

Hey chap,
I had that problem last year. It's limp mode cutting in. I luckily still warranty on my car to get the turbo reconditioned for free :). Check all your boost/intercooler pipes for any disconnections or splits. Worse case would be sticky veins or actuator (which mine was). Get it vagcommed to list the fault up here though.

Aye so I did :p havent fitted yet though :( really getting behind with getting my mods on!!! Out all day tomorrow, so while my alloys are drying next week, Ill fit them :).

You manage to get anything sorted out about your turbo yet?

nah not yet...im getting my hids fitted tonight by a friend whos a seat mechanic so i'll ask him later ;)

Oooo, got HIDS :D there on my list somewhere. Get some pictures up afterwards!

Sticking Vanes - he was on about the inside of the turbo :p theyve got clogged up too much and need clearing out. Apparently you can do this my getting your engine warmed up first then thrashing it for a while, getting the turbo really hot burns the crud off.
Have a searchy on here for some more information :D

nah i dont think its the veins tbh, ive been thrashing it about and it hasnt stopped it from happening,might have to take it in:(

it could be the veins sticking in the turbo as they do get all sooted up which then causes the turbo to overboost which could then send the car into limp mode, the only way to sort this is to have the turbo taken off and stripped and cleaned

Just had a VAG engineer out to my 51 reg 1.9TDI. It had the same problem. He stuck it on the computer and then spent 90 mins under the car. When he re emerged he said the Turbo actuators were sticking and he gave them and good clean. Something for you to look at.

No, you couldn't. You have a vivid imagination, that's all. The throttle pedal is connected to a variable resistor, like the volume control on a radio. There is no mechanical connection to anything in the engine and no force feedback like you might get on a game controller or joystick.

...but then it disappeared and i was stuggling to get any speed....i resolved this by turning off the engine and immediately turning it back on.

Classic symptoms of the ECU putting you into limp mode. It has detected something wrong, either a failing sensor or some component in the engine's control system going wrong, and has reduced power to avoid damaging the engine. The usual reason for this on the TDI 110 is sticking turbo vanes.

would this turn up on a vag com diagnostics muttley?
