Trust me, it will make a difference. When external temperatures increase by 10deg i notice a difference in how well my car goes and ive got a SS cooler on there. Now think how much more heat there is going to be trapped under the bonnet than outside of the car.

You look at all the DERV's running hybrid turbo's. How many do you see using a set up other than PD160 with green filter? Very few if any. It's a proven solution.

Ok fair enough, I'm not going to argue with you Tom and your superior hybrid diesel knowledge... ;)

Its not only air temp though its volume. If your drawing air in thats hot then no ammount of cooling will help you get more air in as it was less dense to start with.

I will invest in a pd160 when it's been dyno proven before and after as well as being compared with an open cone :)

Just to clear things up,
It’s quite logical; the air under the bonnet is always going to be warmer than the outside temp, hence a cone filter is sucking that hot air in and as techie said its less dense to start with so cannot draw as much air in as if it were cooler meaning the volume of air is larger.
A forced air effect on the derv has proven to work, the pd160 intake with panel filter (green or pipercross, not much difference) will give you a higher mass air flow hence increase power. This has been proven using vag com logs with standard set up, then with flap cut out and panel filter put in and all gaps sealed. The mass air flow increased dramatically, a cone filter has also been logged and is worse than the standard set up! All it does is make it sound louder and almost gives a false sense of increased power.
Remember just by giving derv's cold air (and a lot of it) it will make noticeable gains.
Hope this helps ;)

Good write up uzi, when u say no gaps what do u mean,

At the front where you connect the air pipe from the flap to the air box it still has gaps (not huge, but you can see them) where air is leaked so by simply sealing that area up your mass air flow is larger due to it being sealed off completely!

Is the green filter/PD160 intake solution applicable to all SEAT diesels or is there a separate intake for each car? In other words, could i do the same set-up with the same components on a Leon?

well the parts are from the mk4 ibiza not leon, think the set up would be different to be honest, doubt it would fit leon.

Ok, thanks for explaining, i still can't see that engine temps wud be that bad, especially when moving as there is a constant flow of air through the engine. Any wAy i have just reserved a pipercross foam filter from halfords for £60 so will collect and fit tomorrow

thats quite expensive, you get them for £40 max on ebay. next time you drive your car once you stop pop the bonnet and touch your engine, it will be hot, even if constant air passes through it the air heats up because engine temp is so high...

Oh yeh I understand the block will still be hot, oh I'll just see what happens,

and it is fairly expensive but I have nearly 2k in vouchers that can be spent in halfords so even at twice that price I don't care lol
