brake caliper paint

hey guys

just had my alloys powder coated and finished in gloss black today, looking to paint the brake calipers to give it that sportier look.

has anybody ever used the paint kits? and are they reliable? been looking on ebay, the one im after is approx £18, enough paint for all 4 calipers

cheers for the feedback, you mind me asking how long it took you? couple of hours tops? cause I know halfords do caliper paints, and reading up some of the reviews, you need to coat it approx 6 times, and between each coat, allow 30-40 mins to dry

side by side you'd be hard pressed to tell the diference apart from the price

On the halfords website, can see alot of products for 'Hammerite' mind me asking which product I should be going for?

small tin of smoothrite be enough to do 4 calipers easy enough - 250ml odd from memory

took 3 or 4 to cover mine up properly, keep em thin and leave em to dry 20mins or so between

more patient and precise you are the better it will look

mask em up with paper etc where you don't want paint too - get's everywhere

lol, theres a first for everything, I suppose you couldnt really tell from a distance, I just want them painted so it blends in abit with the black and btw, sorry for being such a noob, any particular size brush I should be using? not too big not too small?

1/2" be pretty - 13/15mm or so in today's money

not like ya painting a cieling or a Van Gogh after all

I did the calipers on my old Gti with red hammerite. One coat was still looking great in the 2nd year that I sold the motor.

I did the calipers on my current Fiesta, i used the paint from halfords, cost 6.99 i fink, took 3-4 coats. Looks pretty gd i fink.

A little tick to ade the drying process just nick ur sister/wife/gf hair dryer thats wot i did worked a treat

Hi Jason, I,ve just done my callipers and used "Hammerite Smooth " Red , 250 ml., more than enough for the job. One coat covers very well ,but if you don,t tire, two may be better !!!.
I bought a set of brushes from Lidl for about £1.64p and used them ,various sizes,enough to do the job.

cheers bocawata, did you paint all four wheels? I will have to do mine per wheel at a time, as I only have a standard jack

So far just done the front one,s due to the cold weather!!! but it,s my intention to do the rear one,s when it warm,s up a little, which could be sometime in "June" the way things are at the moment temperature wise!!!. I put the tin of paint in the Airing cupboard to warm up over night as in this icy weather paint tend to thicken up!!!.
Hammerite is a different based paint to normal one,s and so you require a different thinners to clean your brushes afterwards !!! Turp,s will not do.

I'll probably hold out til march, as my mate thats going to do the job is still on holiday at £1.64 a pack of brushes I could afford to buy a few and just throw away after, saves time cleaning
