Strange Noise on start up

Hi Guys,

This post is going to be very vague so i'll apologise before i start. When i start my 2000
20vt Sport it makes a funny noise its hard to describe and only happens on tick over, it sounds like it might be a noisey pulley / carrier is this a usual problem. I had this once on my subaru impreza and they said put some talc down and it will stop it.

Any advise is helpful as its an awful noise, if anyone lives near and is mechanically inclined feel free to pop over and have a listen I'm in Huddersfield West Yorks

it's not the secondary air pump is it? Mines noisey when the car is cold.

Mine does this to only when cold think it's the auxillary pump

is it a squeel? like a fanbelt spilling for a second?

Ok will try and describe, its not a squeel like a belt slipping, the best way to describe it is think of the brakes been down to there limit and when you press them you can hear them going round the disc waking a kinda or shhh shhh noise its like that.

Sorry its do dam difficult to describe. Its quite noisey when its cold not too bad when its warm but you can still hear it thats what makes me think it might be a pully that needs oiling

It could be the aux belt thats worn ... have you checked it?

Well an interesting evening

Turns out the car has been remapped which was a nice surprise... but the Lambda sensor is shot (front one) and the MAF is poorly reading 110gs... also suspect a split breather pipe under the inlet manifold.

Noise is suspected aux. belt tensioner whining a little so needs replacing at some point.

So a few jobs to do... nothing expensive or difficult though

Took Scott out for a spin in the LC after to show him how a remapped car should feel and he was very impressed
