Rear Brakes - Which Setup Do You Have?

Hi all, it's brake time next weekend so bang goes another £400!

I will be going for some EBC slotted discs at the front and DS2500 pads to help improve stoppig but as Brembo's do most of the work, I wondered what benefit there would really be of having the same setup on the rear. What are your thoughts, experiences, reviews and what do you have on yours?

I think my rear discs are OE and my pads are Red Stuff. No qualms personally. EBC Turbo Groove discs on the front with DS2500 pads mind you. Can't vote above because I don't have any of those combinations on the rear

I have oem all round!!! suits me fine never had any problems and good braking as far as im concerned.

Lots of things seem "good" until you try better. I never understood why people bothered with Brembos etc until I got them, and now I can't go back!

When my rears wear out i plan to get OE disks then have them elliptically grooved, not too sure on pads yet though
I did speak to badger bill about getting a rear 330mm 2 piece setup but after thinking about it this would upset the balance and cause rears to lock up more easily
ECS do a 308mm rear conversion kit but very expensive at 500 quid

Ronin, you can get the 308mm rears £400 from the states, comes with discs and spacers, this is what i plan to do but i need to get hold of some LCR rear clipers and carriers first.l There is a nice pick of them on the car some where but i cant remember who has them.

Would there be any benefit of using grooved discs on the rear at all? Looking at the wear on them now, the fronts have taken the most wear while the rears are still ok.

Come to think of it, will grooved discs really make any difference at all if used with a performance pad?

Depending on how much normal rears cost i may go 308mm

I have Grooved discs on the rear with DS2500 pads. They have been fine, bu to be honest, like you say it's difficult to know how much better they were over OEM as they were changed the same time as the fronts. So overall there was a noticeable improvement. However, the DS2500 only lasted 8 months on the front (inc 2 track days) and I've now changed to Yellow stuff which are lasting better. But the DS2500s on the rear still have plenty of life in them as they clearly don't have to work as hard as the fronts.

Thanks Robert, I think I might stick OEM back on the rear in this case as I think they're proably more than capable. I see that EBC do plain discs for the rear at about £60/pair, I can get Padgid rear discs at trade price for about £30/pair most likely (by looking at how much they are retail £40/pair), is there really going to be any difference?

replaced my rear last weekend and went for standard discs and pads this was after talking to the machanic who say that the rear only do 30% of the braking and the wasnt much point unless you've got silly power

Cheers dude, I think I will do the same. I'm not fussed about having a matching set as if I ever get a BT, i'll be wanting that 308mm setup instead.

i use grooved discs & ds2500 pads all round, im very impressed with the whole set up, stops nice a quick, the only bad thing with the grooved disks is the noise, however it doesnt bother me.

I've got Eliptically grooved rear EBC plain discs with Padgid OEM pads.
I wouldn't uprate this to a more expensive system unless I went bigger.

To go bigger on the rear you need to run LCR/TT callipers and TT carriers.
This removes the built in offset in the LCR carriers
I did plan to do this but am not too sure anymore

Also The times I've changed my rear discs and pads there always is LOADS of pad material left which I think is a waste.
so having grooved discs will wear the pads quicker and give you good fresh pad material every time you brake.

Seems like I'm the only person voting for Grooved discs and OEM pads, Bill runs this on his 650BHP Ibiza

I'm a tart so wanted matching front and rear discs but the pads are pagid as per Bills recommendation.
oem discs are fine according to Bill but like I said i'm a tart

I dont rate drilled / grooved disks at all ... imho a decent quality set of OE disks will perform fine with uprated pads.

I've used drilled / grooved disks before and landed up going back to OE.
