Problems with Xenon Lights - Leon FR

I havent posted on this forum before but being a girl I could do with some advice!

I bought my Seat Leon FR in November and I absolutely love it. The only thing is my one Xenon headlight/lamp has just stopped working and i've been quoted £140.00 & VAT by Seat to replace it.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I've read my owners manual book and that states that Xenon lights will never need to be replaced, so does this mean if they do go my warranty would cover it?

When i spoke to Seat they advised me that I could't just buy the bulb/lamp, i had to buy the complete unit as it comes with gas compression.

Help, dont really want to pay £140.00 & VAT on a bulb/lamp!!!!

As I understand the xenon units have a lifetime warranty, however as the car is so new I would expect the dealer to replace the unit without argument.

If not then maybe a visit to trading standards should be in order

Contrary to the handbook, xenon bulbs do have faults from time to time.
The Leon xenon lights use D1S bulbs, which come with an ignitor attached to the base.
Technically you should replace the ignitor/bulb together, but you can buy the bulbs separately.

However, since you bought the car in November, I would try & hassle the dealer into replacing it FOC, as a good will gesture.

How old is the car and is it still under warranty. I would also show the dealer the handbook and ask them to explain why it needs to be replaced and why it has gone wrong.

Lights do come under the fair wear and tear policy but if it states they should last the lifetime of the car you have grounds for a warranty claim.

Thankyou for all your replies.

I bought the car in November but it is actually a 2007 model.

Jon TDI - Where can i just buy the bulbs from as I cant seem to get the bulb off of the base and dont want to force it!

The actual model is Philips Xenstart D1s 35w.

You are correct ;) I had a bulb blow about 7 months after I purchased mine new in 2006. At the time my dealer thought, as I did bulbs are not covered by warranty, as they are a consumable.. When he checked with Seat he was told xenon bulbs carry a "lifetime" warranty, so it was changed FOC

Tell the dealer to speak to Seat, and insist that it is changed FOC...

FWIW - my Leon has almost 90K on it, since day 1 the xenons have been on, day and night always on when driving, so 3 years 90K miles which must be several thousand hours usage and not a single bulb failure, so any if you have one that fails, i'd say it was faulty..

bit of a sideways question but as with most people my xenons are on 24/7, when i turn the ignition on the lights come and then i go to start the car, sometimes the offside light will switch off then come back on, never any problems while driving just when actually starting, wondering if this was the start of something??

I have no idea to be honest, but mine don't do that and never have (if that's any use at all!)
