im still running the std IC, so that is a bonus for me. so should i run out of methanol, i could always switch map, and continue to use the kit as a water injection kit and get the benefits of an intercooler still

A few comments from my own experience. I've had a Snow Performance kit fitted to my Mk1 Leon for over two years.

Yes, it does what it says on the tin. Used to cool the intake charge, the results are astounding. I have a FMIC, but I reckon running WMI with a stage 1 map and standard intercooler you'd not have to worry about intercooler improvements.

It takes time to get it right. I started out with the nearest sized nozzle for my set up, running 50/50 water methanol. Shortly after, we ran the car on a Rolling Road. We quickly proved that the car made about 35 bhp less with the wmi running than with it turned on! Reason - too much methanol - it was quenching combution. I'll say this time and time again, don't get over-enthusiastic. It's easy to inject too much methanol. I went away and experimented with logging for months. I ran a 25% mix of methanol for a while, then 33% for a long while.

If the methanol is injected too early in the spool up, this will also quench the charge.

Always mix with distilled water. The methanol seems to make limescale precipitate out and clog the nozzle filters.

Treat Methanol with great respect. It's a nasty poison - google and have a good read on methanol poisoning. It can be ingested through the skin. Also, you can't see when it's burning, the flame is invisible. Mixes greater than 50/50 are flammable.

With much experimentation, I finally got my system (boost pressure driven) to the stage wher I could start advancing the ignition timing. Log and check, log and check. Too much advance = Correction factors. I finally got the system to the stage where I am running 8.5 degrees of ignition advance. I believe I am getting close to 30bhp extra from this.

My map is not written for wmi. At some point, I intend to get it custom mapped to suit.

I now have a safety system which will drop boost to actuator pressure should the methanol stop flowing.

strange that, as they all seem to recomend a 50/50 mixture.

how many miles do you reckon you get to each tank of methanol (dependant on meth tank itself obviously)

Yes, easy to inject 50/50 and have no idea what's actually happening to it....... ;)

You could drive hundreds of miles without using boost - or methanol. It's really down to how spirited the driving session is. Let's say mine is 'enthusiastic' and on average 3 litres of 50/50 mix to 120 miles?

(I have a 12l tank fitted in the boot now)

check out this for a price, and they have fitted to a lot of VAgs, he even said majority have been seats which means they will know their wat around the cars.

Email response from www.methanol-injection.co.uk referece supply and fitment and a couple of questions reference mixture etc

What mixture to run will depend on various factors, like boost, air temp, mapping etc, normally if you loost power its one of two things, your map is very rich already or your nozzle is to big.

I always recommend customers to go with a 20% meth and the rest water to start with.

The bits your looking for are;

DVC-30 kit £279.99 + P&P http://www.methanol-injection.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=55
On/off switch £6. + P&P http://www.methanol-injection.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=66
Large tank £49. + P&P http://www.methanol-injection.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=32
Fitting and setting up £105 + P&P http://www.methanol-injection.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=28&products_id=62

Using your own washer bottle means you wouldn't need the £49 tank and fitting would also drop to £85.

Obviously if your having it fitted by us you can pay cash on the day which means there will be no P&P charges and I can also do a £20 club discount.

that makes it an even more viable option:D

they seem very knowledgable, and since W/M is their speciality, id feel happier giving my car to them rather tahan a VAg speciaist tuner who hasnt really touch W/M before

I used to run WI and also water spray on the intercooler on my old scoob, which was ever so slightly modified. ;).

The WS worked to a point and would drop the temps over a couple of seconds, WI worked almost instantly. I had a jet located just before the throttle body, but could have had better results if it was closer to the outlet of the intercooler. Gives more time for the air to cool and get a better mix. The finer the sprayer the better results you'll get.

It's always worth having a warning sensor for just incase of a blockage or running out of water, and always tune on the side of safety, unless you want to go replacing engines.
