Diesel Questions

As I say, I'm not in any rush to replace the LCR. I like the car a lot, I'm just thinking that if I get the job I interviewed for last Friday then I could be adding up some mega miles pretty soon and I'm not keen on adding much more to the 98k that I already have if I can avoid it. I've wanted an LCR since about 2004 and I'm not about to let mine go now. I'd like to say that I could make do with a car like the wife's Leon 1.4S but I'd rather add mileage to mine than put up with the boredom. I can't win!

So, I was just looking around and couldn't work out why the TDIs were so expensive and high mileage, hence my original question

diesel engines more robust and can cope with a lot more mileage than petrols...however nowadays petrol engines do run over 150k miles

but for that reason, and the fact that diesels are now greener i'd expect these to be why they retain their values more (if you think about it, further down the life of the car, where the petrol version has died the diesel still lives and is still worth something )...

...also may be that diesels look sexier

some posts on the ukmkivs state that the pd150s into 300k miles and going , some taxis too and they never shut off often

Yeah, I don't dispute the reliability of a diesel. There was a programme I saw once where someone said that he saw an old diesel generator running in Africa that hadn't even got any gaskets. It was practically drained of all coolant and lubricant but it was still running. Hardcore! OK, so they're not the same engines that you'd find in a Leon, but still, very reliable engines for the most part

My 55 FR+ with 44k cost me £7k in Nov 09. I wanted a diesel due to the better MPG and lower tax band, even though we only do around 12k a year.

It makes me feel better knowing that I chose the option where less of my 'hard-earned' is going straight to government.

Well, I've been offered the job that I'd applied for. I think I'll see how it goes for a few months and then make my mind up what to do
