non vag screenwash problem

well i have used cheap stuff and for the second year reunning my rear washer stopped working got it repaired under warrenty but was told seat will only do this once a year and was recommended vw screen wash so bought it stupily from the stealers £9 for 1.5 litres to say i was shocked is an undestatement. Considering i then went into lidl and that had 5 litres of stuff that should work to -60 for a fiver. I will say thought that you can notice the difference between the vag stuff and cheaper stuff it comes out the bottle like calpol

Isn't vag stuff super concentrated so you mix it at 10:1 with water for down to a reasonably cole temperature?

that's why i don't bother with the concentrated stuff as i might dilute it a tad too much and it then freezes up...pre-mixed should see down to temperature on the label

this is wat i was told by my bro, vag stuff is suppose to be thiner (i.e. non calpol like) other stuff might very well work, but like i say seat recomend theres, but tbh it will not be cause thats the stuff the cars can take, but because there clearly making money, hopefully this snow will die away soon n al be able to try get them either unfrozen or fixed

if you can still hear your motor workin best thing to do is remove it put it in some water connect it up to a battery and see if it pumps water out if it dont the little blade in side the pump has more than likely snapped of.If the motor dont make any sound is goin to be a fuse or burnt out motor.

i did a transit on tuesday burnt out motor £50ish for a new one

I just use Tesco Concentrate...straight in no diluting, usually just have to spray the nozzles and all is good. The rest of the year I use plain water...
If it gets any colder mind you I'll get the OH to bring some meths home form the lab as it doesn't freeze till about -117.3C or so...might have junkies licking my windscreen though ....

I used to use Alexanders Clearalex (or something) and added plenty meths during winter months - but that stuff would probably chock the sprays as it comes as power. For the past 15 or so years I've used Holts Concentrated Screenwash and "beefed" it up a bit when the weather gets colder. This stuff has never knowingly caused any problems with blocking spray heads and has, so far, never froze. For anyone with blocked pipes, I'd take care if using cable ties or any other "better" means of keeping the pipe junctions in place as the normal weakness VAG introduced by using push fit joints, seems to turn out to save the pump and/or its motor. Remove this design weakness and use too weak a washer fluid mix at your peril (new pump assembly might just be needed).

i use screenwash sure its a 2litre bottle from poundland does the job and its only £1 not frozen yet

what happens if some one flicks a fag on yer windscreen just after you've sprayed it with meths?

The jets on mine ain't worked since xmas, despite having neat carplan stuff in the bottle, i've resorted to carrying a 2 pint milk bottle full of water round with me..

on the vag front though, your also recommended to use vag pd oil in turbo diesel lump's.. not cheap..but that can be sourced cheaper too (and it's the right spec/viscousity)..

Just a thought, do you really mean "2 pint milk bottle full of water"? as opposed to "2 pint milk bottle full of screenwash mixture"? If you are using water and getting away with it, you are probably wetting and refreezing the washer nozzles.

I try not to use them at all in the really cold weather. The snow melting from the roof and running down the screen every time i stop has worked a treat these past few days.

I just got some Volvo truck screenwash which is so hardcore only need a tiny bit everyone at work uses it in their cars so gonna try it in mine if the halfords stuff ever runs out! It works to some ridiculous temperature made for use all over Europe.
