Water or water solution products i.e. windscreen washer fluid,do freeze up in the sub zero temps that we are going thru.
So we just need to live with it untill warmer temps arrive.
When its minus 3 or 4 the stuff that says its suitable for up to minus 20 is pants really I find.
Still I bought some.So the shop is quids in I reckon.
Anything that says to mix it means with water so freezing comes as a matter of course in these temps.

Guys,

You could always retrofit the heated washer nozzles. They are only around a tenner a side and the wirirng is pretty straight forward. Ill have a look at it and report back this weekend!

Mine have been frozen as well. Getting a bit fed up with this weather in general, but having to drive 30miles each way to my work and not being able to clean the screen is doing my box in!

I know it's made of plastic, but is there any danger or risk of the reservoir splitting due to the screen wash freezing in it?

i've been using the Halfords Pink pre-mixed stuff (supposedly goes down to -30)...aint frozen once over last 2 winters, and also acts as de-icer ;)

if you use concentrate then be careful as diluting too much will cause it to freeze at higher temp than stated (reason why i stick to pre-mixed)

I was forced to buy this rubbish Tesco ready-mix with a whopping -2C rating, needless to say it froze... probably

Ive ordered some Autoglym branded concentrate from the web (£15 for 5L!!) but hopefully it will not freeze...

But it is cold here... -16.5C this morning.

Hi all! Im a newbie here.

Found this place through Google. Looks cool! I currently drive a BMW E46 330d which is off the road due to the icy/snowy conditions. Im quite envious of you all in your Leon's now.. lol.

Anyway, i've just experienced the same problem with my missus' Leon. Seems like quite a design fault if the washer tank pipe's get frozen so easily.. Its blummin rediculous! Anyway, whats the best way to manually thaw the pipe where you put the screenwash in as it seems on our car the tank has run dry and what water was left in the pipe has frozen?.

Many thanks for your help in advance.

Yeah I have experienced that mate. My water bottle in engine bay would be fine but the water jets get frozen which means no matter how much u try and push the water through the jets u won't have any luck. It's annoying when this happens especially with all the salt and dirt on the roads making ur windscreen dirty. I sprayed some de-icer on my jets along with windscreen the other day and it cured the problem mate. Give it a go and see how you get on. Hopefully the snow shall go soon, I hope it does anyway.

Warm water?

Cheers mate! The simplest solutions often turn out to be the best! lol.

Just tried it out now and it worked fine. This time used a 80% screenwash mix in it so it should be okay.. Only gets to approx -10 at the worst here in Yorkshire so it should be fine from now on..

Dont get these problem with the Beemer let me tell you! But then at least you can still drive you cars when there's a sprinkle of snow.. lol

Again - thanks for the help! :D

Bought some 5l tubs of autoglym concentrate, mixed it to a -15c mixture and put some in the freezer, didn't freeze after 24h so I'm hoping it's ok in this weather... Or the weather we had!
