Never known anyone to go to all that hassle, easier to remove the head, that also means you can send it off to be chemically cleaned to get rid of all old oil and coked up shiz so its like new, also gives you a chance to change all gaksets (head set) timing belt, water pump etc, and give the cylinders a proper hone, have you ever removed a crankshaft? you will need end plates (seals) and its even worth changing the main baring shells. Personally id just remove the head in the car, sump off, 14 mm big end bolts off and push them through the top, as for installing them never tried throug the bottom with a ring compressor.
