1.4 TDi worth the money?

I currently have a 04 SX Ibiza with 58,000 miles on the clock.

The fuel economy is shocking, get roughly 30MPG.

Yes, thats £43 for 300 miles.

So i'm considering a 1.4 Diesel if i can get hold of one, roughly 4k marker for a 05 plate with roughly 40,000 miles.

60 MPG apparently?

About the same price road tax & its 2 seconds quicker from 0-60 compared to my 1.2.

Think its worth the gamble?

I'm spending £140 a month on fuel, that roughly 1000 miles a month.

It might be in the next bracket up for insurance than the 1.2, but its £600 cheaper than my 1.2 to insure!

Had a dig around, I think this one is from Belgium, found it on fuelly.com, 64.7Mpg. >>> Clicky <<<

I consistantly get more than 400 miles to my tank (45.6Mpg) and I go through a tank of fuel per week, spending roughly £200 per month on fuel, compare economy with mine here >>> Clicky <<<.
Only reason why I haven't chnaged to a diesel yet I simply can't justify the cost of changing the car, I've spent a lot of time looking and can't find much that is justifiable, there are lots of FR's and PD100's / PD130's appearing as people trade in for the newer models but so far I haven't seen anything that isn't going to cost me the same money per month or similar. Currently paying £110 per month for mine and the best price (with trade in) I've managed to find is £230 per month, so the difference I'm saving on fuel is paying for the car...

I'll keep hunting though...

£2500 is all I was offered for mine, I signed up to this website to email me with fuel prices local to me.

better not watch the news then, as today they said something about it gong back up to 1.25 a litre in the next few months

Your telling me, its disgraceful & to believe us Mugs pay it!

I think the prices should be controlled or Capped by Government, as its costing a fortune to drive a car these days.

Ash i had my 07 1.4TDI for 2 years it was preety good fuel wise , Power wise i had mine mapped up amongst other mods and for a 1.4 3 Cylinder diesel it went well

only thing is on mine with it not being an Ecomotive tax was £120 a year , which is the same as a Ibiza FR PD130


To be honest if you can get the insurance or afford the insurance hike youd be better looking at a 1.9TDI PD100 or PD130 because there fuel figures are almost the same as the 1.4

The Tax isn't a issue, as i pay £125 for 12 months i'm pretty sure on my 1.2.

Its just the price of fuel which is stupid, so need to get a more economical motor.

Try a 1.9TDI PD100 , IIRC there only insruance group 6 but if not get the Baby TDI

I was 20 when I got my PD100, By that time I had one £3000 accident
and 6 points insurance was still below a thousand.

Mine was group 5 depends wot year you get and spec

Other factors go into insurance aswell so his postcode might make it hard for him or easier best thing he can do is get some prices for 1.4TDI and 1.9TDI PD100 and PD130

i would say that maybe the PD160 is a little bit to much

here we go again, like there not taking enough money of us as it is with everything else, depressing when looking into my pay check and see that 25% of it as been ripped away

yeh about 55% of it is, they should reduce it that, never mind reducing VAT from 17.5% to 15% how about reducing something that will actually make a differance

lookin around you can get a decent pd100 for about the £4.5k mark and if your happy to send a tad more you might even get a facelift, FR's are starting from £6200 going up (i even clocked a facelift light blue fr tdi on low miles at a dealer for £6400 ) prices have dropped a fair bit since the mk5 diesel came out obviously
