What about engine mounts?

I had this go in my car and on idle the whole car shook but on driving off or with the clutch in the vibrations eased.
BTW this was on a 106 GTI

the more I read the more I think fly wheel TBH

took to gearbox specialist an he said thinks its dual mass flywheel broken, going to change it along with clutch an bearing for 650. will hopefully have back tomorro
Seems like a good price.
Make sure he aligns the transmission mount correctly when he makes this back up.
He should put in new bolts as these are stretch bolts and torque to the correct torque with 90 degrees of stretch.
You'll need your wheel alignment done after this too as he'll need to disconnect your wish bones

They're shear bolts not stretch bolts so it doesnt make much difference re-using the origionals as long as they're torqued correctly.
Most of the time parts factors supply LUK or sacks part which are just as good as genuine only without the massive price-hike.

one place wanted 480 for same luk flywheel that another place sold for 270. guy whos quoted 480 said himself dont buy it from here... think its ramdom on how its gone but im sure it was when traction control kicked in. was a horrible loud bang like a boost hose popped off. drove an extra few miles off bost an when oosted again started vibrating like mad, just hope hasnt damaged nothing else :-(.
gearbox being split in few months so will get complete inspection when get a diff.

In my line of work these would not be classed as shear bolts, shear bolts are very different
What do you mean the difference is between shear bolts and stretch bolts?

They tend to crack half way through or the springs fire out through the side, if the springs fire out then you'll indefinatley have sustained some damage but its rare for them to go like that.
Price wise - i work for a seat dealer and the genuine clutch/flywheel parts (which all come seperately) retails for like £1200 yet round the corner at our local andrew pages you can buy a full repair kit which includes everything the seat one does for £275 - same make, same markings - ridiculous price hike because it comes through seat with a 2 year warrenty and in a seat box.

They are designed to shear the heads off in the event of an accident so the engine/gearbox drops thus preventing them from entering the passenger compartment, they need to be torqued as oppose to tightended up to "FT" with an airgun so they shear at the correct point in time; too tight and they'll break sporiclly, to loose and they'll work there way out. They are not designed to stretch but break instead.

Ah, okay.

They perhaps are designed to shear but they are stretch bolts too.
This is how they preload the engine mount to resist it's movement.

Due to these being stretch and yielding on fitting they need to be replace after each fitment
