I have a Leon 1.9 105 TDI (07 place), and apart from the obvious remap, what else can I do to the car to get the most power possible?

New exhaust? air filter? any tips and links to website would be fantastic. :)

A lot depends on how much money you have, and how much your insurance will allow you to do before refusing to insure you.

The financial side is fine..... and do the insurance need to know?

If you modify your car and don't inform your insurance company then you have no insurance, despite paying they your premium. In the event of a claim they'll just refuse it as you failed to disclose relevant details to them.

Remap, exhaust, air filter, turbo, injectors, intercoolers. The list is as deep as your pockets.

But remember, you also have to upgrade brakes to stop you and suspension/anti-roll bars if your going to be throwing the car about. Not to mention going through more tyres due to the upgraded power.

As for the insurance question, :banghead2!

When you add up the cost of the mods, the inevitable hike in insurance premium and the fact that the mods add no real resale value to the car, it may be a better idea to change the car itself.

The upfront cost, to upgrade to an FR TDi for example, will be relatively higher but you should recoup most of that when you come to sell/ trade in the future.

Worth considering maybe?

I was looking at the FR, 170bhp right? and well, the insurance is very good next year when I have 2 years no claims, but last time I tried to insure an FR they said I was too young, so I'm not sure. I'll think about it though.

How old are you?

I pick up my Leon FR TDI 170 on 30th December (21st Bday)

Im 20 , 3 years NCB and No Accidents or Points

And you want a massive power hike in another car? Do you not think the insurance company might say your too young again once you tell them what you have changed/modded and rhe power you are producing now? Most insurance companies dont like modded cars at all and especially when you are so young.

Change the car, pay the premium and it will be better in the long run.

So you think I'll get insured on the FR? I think the Insurance group is 12 right?

Phone your insurance company and ask or do a price comparison on 1 of the sites. They will tell you if you will get insured.

I dont see any reason why not, they might just be asking for alot of cash for insuring you thats all we are saying.

You're no more likely to be refused insurance for an FR than you are for your TDi 105 with mods. As previously mentioned, insurance companies hate mods.

As an example, I recently considered a remap for my 1.9TDi Ibiza (100bhp) to increase power to ~135bhp. My insurance quote leapt from £200 to £400.

To put that into perspective, I had quotes for a Porsche Boxster 3.2S and an Audi S4 Convertible for less than the cost of insuring the mapped ibiza, and they have 300bhp plus.

Excellent advice.
