2.0l Tdi Sport Issues

We've had our Leon for a few months now and i've had to sort a few niggles out such as fitting the canbus adaptor for the headunit, couple of tyres needed doing etc. but there are a couple of issues that are troubling me. I've spent the last few hours reading topics on here but wanted some extra information.

I am experiening an increasingly worsening juddering when pulling away low down the rev range in 1st gear. Clutch seems to bite fine and i've read on here that the fly's are weak so at the moment I am assuming this is the issue but have also read that it could be an EGR fault or a coolant leakage resulting from a cracked head. I am going to rule the latter out for the time being as the coolant levels seem to be ok but am not sure how I can work out it is is a failing flywheel or EGR problem. Finding time to take it to a specialist is near on impossible at the moment. The last couple of days, the car has been running like a dog as well, very lumpy and making some rather dodgy noises so am reluctant to use it right now.

The other issue I have is a noise which sounds like a relay clicking on and off constantly, coming from, what sounds like, behind the passenger dash somwhere. I've checked the engine bay behind the battery and can't see anything that it may be. Any ideas?

The car is on an '05 plate and is the 2.0 140bhp Tdi and my local dealer says there is no recall on the flywheel issue.

Any information would be appreciated. :)

No idea what the ticking noise is, I have exactly the same so don't feel left out !

I must admit I put mine down to my Parrot.

Sure I read on here somewhere the ticking is something to do with the air-con

I think it's the recirculated air valve (for when you hit the button to recirculate the air rather than use aircon. There is an option somewhere in VAGCOM to reset this - and when I did this on mine the ticking stopped.

The ticking on mine was much worse with the engine off and the ignition on..

its the motors/flaps, they try to turn too far in some cars, I think there was a little update to cure this, but it doesnt do any damage as far as I know..

Mine does the clicking and used to do the juddering aswell. Cured this by a new fuel filter and some Shell v-power diesel and ditched my EGR with the EGR delete valve. However the jerking maybe a dirty EGR so just clean it out and see, as mine was really coked up when i removed it :)

This thread should help you.

Daz got mine from Toxic (Simon) as he never got round to fitting it to his Altea but he got it from here http://www.egrvalve.co.uk/ formally know as Allards. Ive got the "motorsport" one fitted. My Engine management light is on at the mo but its going to get mapped out. Fitting is really easy the hardest bit is the blanking plate on the manifold as you have to remove some of the air intake pipe. Hour max to do the job. Notice the difference in the pickup and drop down of the revs and my MPG has gone up.

Ok so Part 13 is the EGR valve? This is the one we clean out?
Is there anything else that needs cleaning?

Sorry for being such an idiot about this!

Ive tried to read up on the EGR as much as i could, and it may explain my MPG issues.
I cant get over 48MPG, on any motorway run. My overall average sits between 38-42 MPG.

Bog standard 2.0 TDI but with 60,000 miles, and serviced 2,000 mile ago
When i come to mapping the car next summer, i may look at the EGR removal pipe as you have shown, but for now its just a clean out.

Thanks mate!!

No worries always here to help! :D I would definately recommend the EGR delete pipe to anyone, my car runs so much better with it.

Just had my EGR off and the Flap motor bit too. It wasnt as bad as i was expecting, but it was still thick.
It was similar to this guy's, off the Audi forum:

Cleaned it out a bit, but i have to say, the side of the EGR where part 10 goes, was cacked in dry soot, and didnt look like it had been open in a long long time.

The IMF, was a bit oiley, but no big problems. I would have thought this should have been closed when i removed it? But then i read somewhere, it closes to shut off the engine, then reopens 30secs later.

Im not sure to be honest, a little out my depth. Haha.

So part #10, being a gasket, is replaced with a blanking plate that goes on the end of that pipe #9. Correct?

Do you have a photo of what yours looks like with the delete pipe fitted??

Oh and dave, do you get the "owl" noise?

I just attacked it with a damp cloth, then a dry cloth, and broke away the dried up soot.

I wasnt 100% sure what i was to clean and what to use, so i just got rid of the thick sludge and soot build up. :p

I think i was just too eager to see how bad it was inside lol.
