custom splitter

i had a splitter for a while and didn't get round to fitting it, then i seen Altechs custom splitter which made me want to try to make 1 myself, here is the results.

original splitter.

DSC00240.jpg

to get the right shape i made a template of the bumper.

DSC00243.jpg

i cut 1 of the splitters in half the heated the sides with the heat gun to get them bent to the right shape.

DSC00241.jpg

next i cut the lower middle bit out of the other splitter and plastic weld the joints.

DSC00247.jpg

DSC00245.jpg

i filled the joints with body filler and then sanded the whole bumper down then wet and dry for a smooth finish.

then i was ready for painting. after painting i drove on to the template to give me a little more room to fit the splitter. so here is it fitted.

It looks really good mate :)

I think the way you've done it in 3 pieces follows the bumper lines better than mine.

Have you strengthened it underneath? I plastic welded a long strip of 5mm plastic underneath mine to avoid the main join cracking if I scrapped it.

cheers, i got the idea for it off altech, it only looks that low because of the driveway is on a slope and flattens off at the bottom. its just lower that a kerb height on the flat so hopely wont hit anything.

am glad you like since it was yours the gave me the idea

yeah i plastic welded strengtheners under each joint, i just used the off cuts from the waste bits of splitters.
