ok just had a quote for my cambelt, water pump, tensioner etc and a major service with upgraded spark plugs for £517.23 including labour...

im going with the guys at totalVAG cos they are cool blokes that know what they are doing, i was thinking it would be in the 6s or 7s but it wasnt....they are giving me a slight discount on labour cos im getting it all done at once...

if you need anything doing to your cars and you know where to find them...maybe you could hire, the totalVAG team..

midland VW in cannock quoted me 260 for belt, pump and tensioner so i recon a service would be an extra 100

Whats a major service actually include?

Genuine cambelt kit is £70-80

Metal water pump is £30-35

Oil is £35-40

Oil Filter is £5.50

Air filter....I'm guessing you won't need due to induction kit or panel filter?

Pollen filter is £10

Due they change fuel filter? these are £15 max

Platnium plugs are £40

Do they do gear oils?

The parts are not that expensie, the cost comes from the labour with some garages charging silly amounts.

i had a service 2 months ago but it was classed as a interim service so just oil and oil filter...i knew it was due the cambelt, but i was going to get it done after xmas because i had imagined the cost to be huge. i will still put new oil in and another filter too..

the oil is synta gold 1 litre

yeh its pretty much all you said, but im supplying the spark plugs and they are doing them in with the service...NGK iridiums...

im getting the discount for labour because its all getting done at once, nice guys..

im sure the car will run smoother than a smooth thing after its all done

Brett, don't waste your money by changing the oil after such a short time
The oil is good for 10,000 miles at least

Driving there this Saturday for my cambelt change and service

The timing belt, tensioning roller, relay roller, water pump and coolant is £260 inc VAT and the full service; oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter, fuel filter, plugs, inspection, diagnostics, road test is £120 in VAT.

So £420 all in for me.

seat changed my fans when my car was over heating. they realised that it was actually the water pump. so they did that also and tensioner and timing belt and a regular service and i got a courtesy car out of it all for approx £320 lol. thats fairly steep bret. i'm sure you can get better

You can buy the kit on here for £120 delivered then get £25 back when you return the changed pump.

It's the labour that kills it.
