Reconditioned MAF

Hi all. Had a search through old posts but can't find what I need specifically although it's cleared a coupled of things up (bless you Search tab!).

The local motor factors offer either reconditioned Bosch units or from what I can see another brand called PVW which is new. Bosch is a good name but I don't know if I can rely on a reconditioned part or another i've never heard of. Will they be any good or is there a place that I can get a new one without paying Stealer prices?

Car is LCR by the way and I don't want to exchange my current MAF housing because I want to test the descreening thingy.

MAF's from Eurocar parts are toffee! I would pay for them with pesoes!

The problem you have is you want to keep your old one!

Exchange from a Dealer is around £50 - £60 with a guarentee!

Do not swap sensor / housings seperately as they are flowed to each other and calibrated accordingly!

I would rather buy a second hand genuine one from a mate than fit the cr4p GSF etc sell!

TOO MANY experiences with bad ones from them!

Have fun!

You need to be more specific. Bosch mafs from Eurocarparts are fine. Come in in Bosch box bubblewrapped, which is more than you can say for the dealers. Eurocarparts Bosch ones have the guarantee.

And is £20 dearer than a genuine one according to their website!

Remember not all MK1 Leons ran Bosch air mass meters!

According to the motor factors around here, which happens to be EuroCarParts funnily enough, a reconditioned MAF is about £55 + £28 surcharge if I keep my old MAF.

The sensor in my current housing is getting more shagged by each month that passes so if I get ones of these condioned units and descreen it, then find out it runs worse than with the mesh, can I pull out the sensor and reuse my old housing?

I think i'll give Dave a message and see what Sere can do.

I would recommend if you are going to descreen a sensor you keep it with its original housing!

Basically the housing is a venturi and affects gas flow, the sensor is calibrated to this gas flow!

Keep each sensor with its housing, it may only affect the air mass by 5 - 10 grams a second but every little bit helps!

The housing is so easy to change, one big jubilee clip and two philips screws into the airbox housing.

If you are hell bent on keeping yours, get a knackered air mass meter off ebay for the same car and send that back to get your exchange!

Got mine from GSF about 6 weeks ago £66.30 exchange for genuine Bosch.

There only exchange because the use the old housing to put a new element in.

That wouldn't make economic sense to have an exchange system with all the shipping backwards and forwards for a piece of tube that probably costs less than £1 to make..... I believe the sensor is remanufactured.

Your probably right Dave its just what I was told by GSF as I was asking the same questions as JamJay when I bought mine :)
