Hybrid turbo.

Hi,

Before I start I know I you search "hybrid turbo" about 5 million threads come up but I’m after more of a personal answer.

Anyway I’m looking into getting a pd150 hybrid fitted to my car early next year. I’m just wondering what are they like to live with (reliability, mpg, noise?) I do a 70ish mile commute each day so obviously having something fun breaks the grind but of course I still require the reliability etc...

What do you do different now you have a hybrid e.g. allowing it to warm before driving, instead of twist and go. Maintenance? Etc..

I’m a engineer so the maintenance doesn’t phase me but as I’ve said a 70 mile commute at half 4 in the morning I don’t want to be spending time on the hard shoulder.

Basically What I find from this thread will convince me weather I’m going to go hybrid or stop just short and go for stage 2.

It should be just as reliable as the standard car, as long as its mapped right and you have the right supporting mods. Really you need SMF and clutch, FMIC, hard boost pipes and it should be fine. I know T. Spark and Tom. can both still get 55mpg+ from their stage 3 TDI's yet still do high 13s 1/4miles and beat alot of more exotic cars!

I ran an uprated clutch and DMF for ages on mine no problems, managed mid 40's easily, 50 at a push in 6th on the motorway.

As long as oil is changed, no problems.

Thats good to hear ive heared all sorts of storys about limp mode etc, I dont even want it mapped to run at the limits I want comfort along with the power and a nice steady torque curve.

What company did you use to hybrid the turbo? and who mapped it for you?

Should do that with All turbos , Twisting and going with a cold turbo aint gonna do it much good

Having a meatier Turbo will easily increase power. When remapping you don't want the max out of it as overboosting will be the next problem. If you go to one of the specialist tuners like Jabba, AMD or Awesome tell them you want longevity rather than outright power. MPG is minimally effected and future clutch wear is a lottery.
