GT2X HYBRID questions

the GT2X has already been HYBRID already i just dont no wat to do now people say this turbo aint very good offers say it is im :confused: . com :lol:

Who are these other people that say it is good? Do you not think that with the amount of people on here who have done k03 hybrid, it might be worth while sticking to the tried and tested?

I disagree with that Mat... Props to him if he wants to try something new. Good things sometimes come out of trying new things, sometimes they don't. You won't get very far in life if people don't try new things.

Know what your saying Ibiza125, but trying something new can cost money and sometimes end in tears. But like you said, if you dont buy a ticket you cant win the lottery. I count myself lucky i found this forum, you get, on the whole, informed choices from people that have got the t-shirt before you, hence why the ko3 hybrid appealed to me and others.

I think if thats the turbo he fancys using he should go for it. Sorry but K03 Hybrid ain't the Be all and end all, he'll probably end up with more power, Just because a few people have had problems with a GT2X does'nt mean they're crap turbos. Properly setup/mapped, with decent pipework etc.. should see some very decent fiqures.

No one said they are the be all and end all?! Its just a nice compromise instead of going BT, its cheaper, fast spooling and good fun!

I dont think people said they were crap turbos, just going from what other people have experienced, and on the whole its not positive. Yes it may be down to the fact they weren't setup properly, but thats enough to put people off it.

true, if you have the time, and money (in case things go wrong), then try something new. If on a tightish budget, best to stick with what you know

gt2x is'nt trying something new tho
it is a laggy, overall lack lustre turbo
k03/4 hybrids are a better equivalent than these for the high 200bhp levels

i would go so far as to say they are crap turbos which i would never advise from the 2-3 i have seen for logging and mapping they all dissapointed. gt2x units and one hybrid'd gt2x

good luck
if its cheap and you can fit it yourself & get over their awefull turbo intake pipe issues you can try it for yourself for not much ££ but if you will have to pay to get this work done, i would worry for you.

now I could take Robs car as an example of a working and good GT2X unit, but with all due respect Rob, if my car barely covered 3000 miles a year, which would probably equate to it sitting on the drive way for 10 months of the year, this for me is not a real world working example....

From my experiences (others may be different so dont take what as I say as gospel)

The quality of the ATP kit when new is piss poor. The parts are of a bad quality, badly fit together and are far from what you would say makes up a complete "kit"

the quality of these parts are reflected throughout the turbo too (new or 2nd hand). Rob's had issues and hence his was turned into a Hybrid to make it more stable. Reliability on the standard unit is very questionnable

Even with it turned into a hybrid, the unit is still laggy, and where as the GT2X is spooling, the Hybrid K03 is pretty much on full chat

The GT2X is oil cooled only, and as said before, this is a backwards step for me

Yes its all very well to say "well try something different" but only when it will yield an outcome of it definitely working Vs cost of the install and how this is justified

not only this, but in terms of consistency for the end result of the product, the K03 hybrid wins out.....and you have to ask yourself where are the results for the GT2X.....not many that I have seen where they have performed as they said they have - alarm bells ringing again

the majority on here opt for the k03 hybrid (no not because we are lemmings) but where we spend our hard earnt cash on our cars, we want them to perform and live up to the results. Hence this is the clear winner for providing consistent results

which brings me onto my final note...

As I have mentioned before, if the well respected tuners on here i.e. Bill (badger5), who is held in high regard by me and many others on here does not sell or push this kit (from his clear and concise opinion as above), then that alone for me starts alarm bells ringing. Not just Badger5 as an example, but neither do AMD, Backdraft, JBS, are just some of the big boys to mention. I have not come across one VAG tuner who rate the GT2x at all

remember, buy cheap buy twice. Good luck....

right well i spoke to CR turbos today and they said to me the GT2X is a good turbo internally but the shell os not very strong they advised me to go ko3 hybrid they also said there is a fair bit of lag so im thinking ko3 hybrid it is:D

right then people iv done some searching (again lol) i under stand wat parts i need to go ko3 hybrid now im just confused i no i need a 3inch MAF but do i need an ibiza element in it bit confused on this:confused:
im gonna start sourcing parts i need now:lol:

yes, you just need the 3" housing and your standard element fits inside the housing

Just to throw in my experience, done 20k on gt2x (cupra_matts old one) no problems , did 50+ 1/4 mile runs, trip to nurburgring, Serveral trips up and down the country.
made 262bhp and 265lb/ft, 13.63 1/4

But if i was to do it again, id go ko3s hybrid, inless gt2x was dirt cheap again

Yes the ibiza element goes info the 3'MAF housing. You'll need BAM injectors either from a TT/S3 or LCR.

Go to badger5's section as he has a sticky thread on the breakdown of prices and parrs etc

Don't Be off put by the massive amount of hatters of the GTx2 Hybrid...I had One on mine and it was truely awesome was running 285bhp+ and wasnt shy...To Solve the lag it has a full 3'' Tip is needed as i was on full boost 1.5bar At 3720rpm....

The Stock Gt2x is poor by far but a Hybrid Ftw...Me & Rob had ares running spot on and it was awesome id say go for it if the price was right....
I know Bill hates the ATP Gt2x But its a good Turbo Yet the K03x hybrid will spool up sooner alot sooner but the gt2x will have more Bhp than the K03x versions...

If the Gt2x is Really cheap then go for it but if u want something to Spool in a car park get a k03x hybrid but depends how Cheap the Gt2x is i supose..Id admit yeah its a lazy turbo but nothing a down change can't sort out..
