i removed the gear gaitor and i've noticed it's been attached with stapels
does anyone ever make a guide about how to remove and replace with new one (i couldn't find an answer at the search option)
i've heard that once i remove the gear knob i can't use the bend clip that hold the knob to his place anymore
if someone can shed some light on this subject it's would be wonderfull.

removing parts in this car requiers you to be a NASA scienctists :)
thanks

gear knob and gatyor are one supplied as one! you get a new clip with the new knob and gator.

i've got a brand new gaitor lying around at home...but no clip as the knob was fitted to a leon

as for your query to remove the gaitor you need to find the hidden clips underneath which release the bottom section. then you need to rool it up to undo the metal clip that fastens the gaitor to the gear knob. You can then remove the gear knob and slide off the gaitor.

and yes the leather gaitor is stapled to the bottom sections that clip to the centre section above the handbrake

hope that helps

Push the bottom section forward. There's like a "thicker" section on the side closest to the handbrake. The main clips are there.

My new leather gaitor arrived in the post to day and i am just after fitting it an hour ago.

I bought this gaitor off ebay-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SEAT-IBIZA-CORDOBA-GEAR-GAITOR-02-TO-2008-BLACK_W0QQitemZ250541113169QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3a5569ff51

Its excellent quality and fits perfectly.

Fitting the new 1is easy enough.

First take your gear knob off and slide the old old gaitor off attached to the plastic assembly.

To take the gaitor off the plastic part you first need to remove the 2 bits of plastic trim.

The far one slides off to the side. There is a wee plastic clip you need to ease it over to slide it to the side.
The front one slides upwards and is held on by 3 clips. (These are easy to remove and You'll see exactly how its done when you get to it.

After that i just ripped my old gaitor off along with the staples. To fit the new one I wasnt keen on trying to restaple it incase i split the plastic, so I used hot melt glue gun glue. I just took my time and made sure not to apply too much. Made a perfect job of it! :)

Hope this helps.

And all I have to do now is pick up new chrome trim for mine, called into sere motors today on my way home but the parts section had closed :( and that was at 3.30, which i thought was early- so all been well on monday

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to fit an aftermarket gaitor and gearshift (from MOMO, for example... :S), and if so, then how? They're separate parts.

I fitted a new aftermarket gearknob ass well as a separate gaitor. Mine was just a universal fit gearknob (didnt like the idea of paying £50 + for a seat branded 1).

It fits fine, just sits a bit higher than the original (if i want in the future i could cut the end off the fitting collar and i could slide it down more, but only realised this now ^^).

The only problem with the one i bought was that fitting my new gaitor neatly to it was an absolute **********, this was the only hard part and took ages. You are warned!

I am definately pleased with mine and i'll try and get some photos up tomorrow

sounds like a promise [B)]

Sry for the delay, but here are a few photos-

This is it finished with the new gaitor and knob fitted, just missing the new chrome trim which i still need to pick up-

(yes the inside needs cleaned!)

These are the 2 bits of trim you need to remove to stick the new gaitor on to the base-

And finally a quick photo of my car-

I know the colour isn't great but I am a student and was all I could afford (Ugly cars are cheaper ;) ).

Still love it though.

Any more questions about the fitting or want more photos just ask !

Got to do this myself got a momo gaitor to go with the Momo gear knob, nice Italian leather unlike the cheap crap in there as standard they really charge £50 for that tat! I couldn't figure out how to attatch it glue gun sounds like a good idea actually as mine came elasticated but the elastic gets in the way when putting it back together

That does look great. I've got a MOMO Anatomico gearknob that's been passed down the generations from car to car, and now needs to go on my car. Basically once I get the old knob off, I simply need to use the rubber adaptors that came with it and some glue to get the MOMO on? Would I do the gaitor before or after that?

The italian leather is nice :D. I'd say the elasticared ones would be hard to fit, the one I got was identical in shape to the original with all the correct tabs already cut out so fitting it was easy.

Just wondering aimez, wat way did the gaitor attach to the top of your momo gear knob? Was it easy or hard to fit neatly?

Getting the new gear knob on is easy, you shouldn't need glue, just push on the correct adapter, pust on the gear knob and tighten the 3 grub screws.

You would need to sort out the gaitor first and then put the gear knob on as you couldn't pull the gaitor over the gear knob.

got one that has a metal ring at the top that screw onto the gear knob and then same 3 small screws keep the gear knob in position. Need to sort mine out as it looks wrong at the mo but better than with the standard gaiter on there the problem is is you change to after market gear knob the gaiter then only just meets the gear knob and looks a bit crap!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250524356435&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

quite pleased with what came:

But I'm unsiure of how to fit it... Any help is greatly appreciated here.. took the surround out, and managed to get the front and rear clips off also.

Only thing with the gaitor is that it has an elasticated edge around the bottom and it keeps slipping off on me...

Has anyone else got a similar one to fit?

Also, how do I get my Gear knob off without breaking it? here it is....
