I have a new thermostat that I need to fit, from looking at the car its behind the alternator inside the black casing?

Do I need to remove the alternator or can I do it without?

Before people say the thermostat isn't faulty and its the temperature sender...I have already replaced the sensor and it didnt fix it.

Car doesn't get that hot and when it does get up to 90 it drops back to 70 then does what it wants between 70-90!

It doesn't overheat, never goes above 90 so I ruled out water pump and now temp sender, all thats left is the thermostat or a dodgy gauge?

Good cause they always break don't they :cartman:

I will give it a go this week hopefully, got me G12 coolant and thermostat sitting here now :)

P.S. I've had 3 different cars all of which the thermostat had to be changed and they all exhibited the prob you have - Getting up to 90deg and dropping to about 70deg, or never getting up to 90deg.

I also changed the coolant temp sensor as a first pass (on my mk3 Cupra) and it never worked either, was defo the Thermostat.

After running it up last night it all seemed ok but I think if I would have run it that long with the old one it would also have got to temperature as it was only sticking.

I've got dentist this afternoon so can test it from cold, I'm really hoping its going to be ok.......fingers are well and truely crossed!

Whats it normally take to get to 90 in this weather? about 4-5 miles of normal driving would you say?
