hi guys,

close to getting a Leon TDI 150, and was thinking of getting an ecu upgrade. I'd briefly spoken to the guys at JKM and they suggest the Revo upgrade.

Anyone else thats chipped a 150 TDI leon before? Worth getting?

you can expect a 30-40% increase in bhp if you go for a more power specific map. obviously boosting torque considerably too, or you can have a map for mpg which will probably still boost the bhp and practically give you a hybrid lol :p

worth getting? YES, for the money a remap is the way forward.

personally though if i were you, id invest in an induction kit and a custom exhaust system before you map it :lol:

Revo all the way mate if you otherwise keeping the engine standard or have a custom one by the likes of AMD or JABBA if your thinking of going hybrid.

they do induction kits for diesels?? Oh my, been a while since i've done this modding lark.....!

Can't imagine what a sports diesel would sound like with an induction kit/exhaust........

At the moment mate the diesel tuning market probably isnt far behind the petrol.
A diesel with an induction kit and exhaust on just sounds like a louder tracktor :D

He means the mpg you'd get.

Dont' forget to chek your insurance. A remap on mine would take it from £7/800 to £1000.

oh dont worry about the insurance, I'm an old git!

Got quoted £450 for the 225 Cupra R (33 years old, full no claims, no points).

Does anyone know, on the Diesel, what were the names of the top models? I've seen "FR TDI 150" advertised, but i've also seen a couple with the Cupra badge? Whats the difference?
Is the cupra diesel just the top one with the cupra bodykit? Anyone know what they come with as standard?

I'd love the Cupra 225 version, but am trying to think practically.
However i dont want to feel disapointed in the performance if i get the diesel.

Choices choices!!!

There's a few things on the Mk1 forum on this but basically:

Cupra and FR are the same spec with different wheels and FR has silver wingmirrors. Cupra was first then badges changed to FR.

Then there's the FR+ which is an FR with CupraR bumpers and 17" replica wheels.

I'd say Cupra was best. But I'm biased.

And isn't Revo renowned for having a major torque surge? (it did when i was researching maps, but that was a while ago). If so, you'll need a new clutch!

Plus the Cupra Tdi has a tape player stereo with a cd changer and the FR's have a cd stereo (i think!)


I was in the same boat...really wanted a 225, but went for the wallet friendly alternative!! £125 tax, £370 insurance all mods declared)!

certainly am mate.

I got the FR+, so it has the R225 bodykit. Remapped to 185bhp and an uprated clutch...pulls like a train and will still do 55mpg on the motorway :)

You need to do more research matey. Use the old search and destroy button.

I've always been a believer of uprating the clutch first before even thinking about a remap on the 150 ARL.

Due to costs many just stage 1 it and keep well below the 300lbs/ft mark for the clutch. However its a dark art and all clutches are different. Most map to about 285lbs/ft but even that's no guarantee that the clutch will not slip - just too many variables. And then some will go on for years with no problems other than accelerated wear.

With an uprated clutch you might not add too much in the way of additional bhp (single figures), but you should get another easy 30 or so lb/ft of torque.

And there lies your dilemma.

I've had the Leon from new and wish I'd mapped it from day one. More power and more mpg (about another 2mpg). A no brainer really.

some may say lala land....
been wanting to get mine done for ages but no funds.
a quick way for me was to remove the egr and clean ( so clogged was 99% blocked) and boy was it like a new car now she can breath again.
explained to the missus, run a marathon full of flu and then after wards - that kinda diff

I imported my clutch from the states, at the time the exchange rate was really good so the clutch and flywheel only cost around £600 shipped.

I've yet to have it dyno'd but it should be running around 320ft/lb of torque, and as I said earlier it pulls real nice. Its an Upsolute map and delivers the power progressively up to 4000rpm.

going to need new pads and discs next year so will be doing the 312mm upgrade, and am also looking into lowering it (if some funds come along!)
